I have been looking into getting a 03 - 06 Buell lightning so I decided to go to my local dealer in Sandusky Oh, I walk in and their's not a Buell in sight. Confused I glance back at the sign above the door sure enough it says Harly Davidson Buell. So I ask one of the salesman and he tells me we are not a Buell dealer any more but we do have v-rods....

2 weeks later I am in North Canton Oh, looking at new cars for my girlfriend during one of our test drives I spotted Freedom Harly Davidson - Buell. So after we finished up looking at cars we stopped in they were pretty busy so I walk around and i spot the only Buell in the store a new XB12s. I start checking it out and a salesman stops over to see if I had any questions.

Sure I have plenty of questions but for now I just want to sit on it and see how it feels. He says sure, have at it so I hop on and while I am checking it out I ask do you have any used Xb's? He tells me that they have a 05 CityX in the warehouse at that point I was like hell yeah that was the bike I was looking for. But before I could ask he said he was to busy to take me out to see it today.... Bummmer. Then he tells me that they are not going to be a buell dealer much longer. What is the deal with that.

Is this going on everywhere? or am I just having really bad luck at finding a Buell dealer that actually has Buells and plans on carrying Buells in the future.

Anyone know of any good dealers in the Cleveland or Toledo area?

The same story seems to be continuing everywhere. HD/Buell dealers who aren't really dealers. I've been to at least 4 Buell dealers in the last 6 weeks. Dealer from central Wisconsin to southern Wisconsin. The same theme repeats itself....little to no bikes, little to zero for accessories.

This halfassedness needs to stop.

As someone whose been riding for twelve years but is new to the Buell passion...the dealer experience has been eye-opening.

I travel a bit in my job so I've been able to visit more than a few Buell dealers. Sad.....one or two bikes at the most on the floor, no accessories and very little expertise. (Stone Mtn. Harley/Buell being an exception) It's always disheartening when you know twice as much as the sales person.

I understand the HD realtionship...but it would seem that Buell would sell more bikes if they were in showrooms sitting alongside Hondas,Kawasakis,Ducatis, etc.

It's like selling Mustangs at the Winnebago dealership. They both have Ford motors and wheels.. but very little else in common. And neither customer has an interest in the other.

I don't think Erik or the folks at HD are stupid so I'm sure there are some sound financial reasons for the business model they have...but it is quizzical?

12 new Buells in stock, 4 used XBs in stock, and a 2002 Tuber for good measure. A riding club that meets weekly all year long (twice weekly in the nicer months). A dedicated service shop, and a rider / sales guy that is having too much fun on the CityX. Come see us at the twisted edge in Silverdale Washington. Bring on the Buell Dirt bikes : D

Hey "Buellinachinashop",
Did you stop by Hal's? We're the only "10-time" Pegasus Award winner in the country. Were the only dealer in the region offering Buell Sportbikes in our Rental fleet. We have the 2006 CCS Thunderbike National Champion as one of our technicians and the list goes on.... Just ask Cityxslicker about his experience here last month. Maybe you should be a little more careful about making such generalized statements. See you at the meeting next week!
BudC
Ps. I hope you enjoy the 2003 XB9S you bought from my brother-in-law. It's a great bike and I know you'll have a lot of fun.

Drax,
I think I bought one of the last Buells from Roeder's in Sandusky. I took my bike there for the 1k service. They stripped the threads on the primary cover and overfilled the oil. IMO yshouldn't be selling or servicing Buells.

Lake Erie Buell and Buell of Youngstown are pretty good.

Draxel if you ever get to central New York be sure to go to Utica HD and Buell , as soon as you walk into the front door you'll be in the middle of 8-12 Buells most the time. They're never hid in the back corner. 3 out of 4 of the parts guys there are Buellers. And welcome us at all HD events( although most are motors get too hot at their snail pace).haha

I bought my bike at Utica HD. They are great dealer to do business with even if I have to drive 4 hours to get there. Only place that was better in NY was Iron Block HD.....but they do not sell buells anymore. Iron Block knew there Buells but they where not selling enough to keep the line.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I was on a biz trip last week to Tucson.

Tucson has a large HD/Buell shop (soon to be 3x bigger). I wondered in thinking it would be like the dealer around home. Nope.

They had 4 bikes (including a new TT) all where quite filthy. Not one piece of buell Swag.
I even went in wearing a Buell t-shirt no one in sales approached me. The only person who talked to me was a girl in the t-shirt department.

It was a shock coming from Seattle where I have 4 committed Buell dealerships.

Funny part was the flight back. I got stuck in coach this time, and was sitting amongst a real tough looking MC club (Vietnam era MC's I think) They all looked like hells angles members in their biker gear.

We started talking about bike, they were all Buell fans, although no one owned one. They said they even noticed the lack of Buell support at a lot of dealers.

Sad, so very sad...

Don't bother coming to Lexington! They are having the PsychoBuells here this weekend though, I am going to try to get there but the weather doesn't look cooperative and it's my oldest daughters birthday, the big 06 so that takes precedence. I'm beginning to think this badweb is the best service dept. around.

It is really sad to see the total lack of dealer support for such awesome bikes. I can imagine that after walking in to the first 2 dealers like I did finding that they had little to no bikes, no swag and they are not going to be Buell dealers anymore. Most people would be kinda scared to buy one especially the people who don't like to research things online.

Anyways I am going to be in Youngstown the week after next I think I well stop by the dealer and see what they have. I am not really planning to buy one a.s.a.p since I am still saving up my nickels and dimes : )

Here's the ones I've been to in the last week....

Wausau HD/Buell..NOTHING for accessories, 3 bikes

Hal's..... Left over Brag shirts, some dress and racing shirts, no t-shirts, a few hats, a couple helmets and a few pairs of gloves. There's a decent supply of jackets. The display rack is just about bone dry with bike accessories. Yes, you can buy 01 yellow plug wires and $4.00 1x2" racing decals.

Suburban HD/Buell..NEXT to NOTHING for accessories, 3 bikes, one used.

No, I haven't been to Appleton, Daves left and thus my reason for going was gone!

Bud, Hal's has the best selection of stuff I've seen so far, but they could do better. I left Saturday with nothing. Yes, I left the $4.00 1" x 2" racing team decals alone.

I work part-time for a major outdoor retailer, if our selection was as thin as I've seen at Buell dealers, we'd be out of business.

Hey Buellinachinashop,
I have tried for almost a year now to get a better selection of all things Buell. Unfortunately, Buell doesn't have a whole lot to offer. We recently started carrying Scorpion Helmets and I have also recommended that we carry TourMaster Riding Gear. I am still waiting to hear on the TourMaster. I do think that the department looks a lot better than it did a year ago when I came into it. I always like to hear constructive criticism so thanks for your input.

Hey Bud...do you know if Hal's has any Carbon Fiber parts in stock?

Maybe my problem is that I want the bling and so do other folks who beat me to it! I saw shirts and stuff this winter, I'm sure Hal's will re-stock.

I'm beginning to think this badweb is the best service dept. around.

Naah, not when Hals has Dan Bilansky as their head Buell tech : ) That man eats, drinks, and sleeps all things Buell.

chinashop. Look at it from a dealer perspective a bit. Carbon fiber stuff ain't cheap, as you probably know by now. And it doesn't move very fast IMHO. From a business standpoint I wouldn't stock the stuff either.

As far as T-shirts and stuff go, I'm pretty certain you'll be seeing more in stock at Hals.

And what is the 1st thing you see when you pull in to the main parking lot at Hals? You see 7-8 Buells in the vesti-buell section : )
I like where they put them now.

And, as a tool and die designer/maker/machinist, I'll make my own bling thank you very much! : )

Chinashop-I am looking forward to you joining our group. You seem to have a great interest in this little past time of ours. Stay tuned, the ride will get better.
Steve, I got good news today from the folks at Buell. Our group information should be posted on the Buell website no later than early next week. I asked to have it "pushed" through so we could get our Homecoming events posted. I will keep you updated.

Unfortunately, Buell doesn't have a whole lot to offer.

I agree with that, it seems to be shrinking. I just recently sent out some old Buell literature that I found hiding in a drawer to a new Buell owner. One of the magazines was a 2000 clothing and accessory book and after looking through it I couldn't believe how much stuff was available back when. I'm gonna have to say (jokingly) that they cared more for us tuber guys, the XBs are just red-headed step-children. SEE WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO OUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY?

If you are anywhere near the E troy, Milwaukee, Chicago area, go see the guys at Hals. BudC and his crew make one hell of an impression. Good stock on hand, and rentals too. And I bet he has a shipment load of those new courier bags.... I know I got ours : D saving them for the devout and the converts. Let the Harley Guys just wonder what we are up to.

all 3 in the cleveland metro area did.

and the remaining ones around do not have
much of anything Buell related.

"Frank" in parts at Southeast Harley/Buell
in bedford hts, suburb of cleveland is one of the people i know of that has
passion for Buells. Too bad he isn't
a Buell tech.

the dealer near toledo is a buell dealer too.

Buellinachina shop.
You want Carbon Fiber?
I have a friend in Appleton that did his whole bike in CF and I am sure I could arrange him to meet you at the dealership so you can check it out. Then Andy can order up what you want.

Just because I left is no reason not to make the trip to Appleton. I left all things Buell in the good hands of Andy.
If you ( or anyone else) has a question or need that Andy isn't familiar with, he has my phone number and we talk about twice per week.

Man we are lucky here in the south west. We have Santa Fe Buell-HD. They have plenty of bikes on the floor plus gear. Murrae is the service manager here and he loves Buell's! Any time you need help all the service department is there to help. Murrae is also a Badweb member. No matter how busy Murrae is he will always take the time to answer any questions you have.

Manchester HD/Buell in Manchester, nh used to have quite a bit of Buell swag, but now, they reduced the size of swag to maybe 4 shirts, one pair of gloves, 5 helmets, and some rubber Buell logos. The rack has been moved to an obscure area and the bikes have been moved to the rear. Where there used to be 6-8 new Buells, there are 3. Two left over 06 Firebolts and one TT. Sad

I actually just went to HD of Washington (DC) this past Sunday to pick up a free Buell skull cap through that Buell promotion. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Buells lined up by the front door. They had one of each model. The red Firebolt 9R sure looks sweet.

The flip side is that I didn't see much Buell swag--at least not prominently displayed by the bikes or in the clothing department. Didn't ask about parts. All Harleys in the main showroom, and no used Buells were in stock.

Nice shop, though. A sales rep took a moment from selling a Harley to some folks and got me the skull cap and a Buell brochure. Came across as a good guy.

I plan to head back there to do a demo ride sometime.

Personally I would love to see the Buells taken out of the H-D shops. Not sure about the US but over here in my part of mainland Europe 98% of the H-D dealers are total (you can guess the word). They seem to hate Buells (they are almost polite, but you get the impression that it is only to take your money). The mechanics tend to be bad at best. They are only interested in selling a new bike and getting rid of you. Trade-in is a joke as they definitely don’t want an old one in the window (half or less that book price). No passion. No interest. No knowledge. Please if someone knows of a good one around me please let me know.
I like Harleys and even then I didn’t like going to a dealer so now I am almost in a bad mood before I get there for a Buell related issue.
If Buell wants to have a specialised dealer here, talk to me, I’ll do it.
…..Fulgur.

i also went to the dealer today to have my wheel bearings removed. but they were to busy to do it and wanted to charge me an hour labor even though i walked in with bare rims. i eneded up doing it my self at home with an extention, a hammer and a screw driver and didnt scratch or damage anything. but back on subject. i walked in and they only had one buell on the floor. an 07 yellow xb12r. and their acc wall only had traction pegs and black heal guards. i was very dissapointed. i asked a parts rep while i was buying a service manual. they said that they has alot of buell stuff they had to put out on the ploor but didnt know why it wasnt out. and had no answer on why they had only one bike on hand. i have a feeling that they might drop the line. they arent popular in my area. ive seen a small hand full on the road and alot forsale in the classifieds.

I feel your pain. Not only have they stopped selling Buells where I purchased mine originally, but they don't stock any parts as far as tires, brakes and any other bare essentials to Buells. To add to the agony, I took my bike in for them to diagnose why my low beam would flicker on and off. He determined that I had an electrical problem because when the clutch was squeezed the check engine light would come on. I had to explain to him that this was a natural function of the bike. As great a handling bike it is, that may not be enough to ever make me consider purchasing another. All this has soured me on Buell. Suzukis', Hondas' and Kawis' have their problems too, and they may not have the same exclusivity of ownership, but their dealer network is stronger. And when you just want to ride and get the wind in your face on a nice sunny day and your bike is sitting up because of a blown tire, or some other simple malfunction and those aforementioned bikes are zipping by your mazda it has gotta make you scratch your head and second guess that purchase.

It's pretty sad that here in Wisconsin we have maybe two good dealerships. No Offense to you Bud but Hal's had a larger display of bikes and parts not that long ago.
I have also been to many dealerships around this state and most are pathetic. I know we have it better than most but, come on!!
