I found one more I am interested in Shark RSI. Out of all the reviews I have read this one seems to be the most solid helmet for the money, but a little pricey still:

The funny thing about helmets that I found in my research is that they all rely on data performed at Wayne State University (my college) in which we (and still do) preform impact tests on human bodies (dead and donated) it has helped the auto and helmet industry.

Their are a few major helmet standards that are currently in use. DOT, ECE, and Snell. I've read several articles on this subject and Snell recently is getting alot of criticism because those helmets aren't soft enough for low impact (95% of road crashes) and will actually hurt you more. Basicly DOT is the lowest of the standards, the EC or European union standard which is adopted in over 50 countries including germany is very similar to DOT except that they test at high rates of velocity and they have certain restrictions such as weight limit (the weight limit is what hurts the Snell rated helmets as only few snell certified helmets can get under 3 pounds)

All in all Snell rated helmets should only be used on the track if you want to go faster than 150 mph because its best rated for high impact crashes, not the ones typically seen on the track. (most tracks also support the ECE rated helmets)

when I look for a helmet I look for one thats EC rated because you know its going to be light and crash test rated a bit better than DOT and not as harsh as Snell.

thats my opinion

I really am leaning toward the Shark RSI for the soft issue. That is probably one of the nicest looking helmet I have see as well.

I had an HJC AC-12 helmet ( not the carbon one ). I could go either way with it. Glad I had it, but maybe should have gotten a different one. I took a spill aprox 2 years ago, hit my head. I'd say it was a medium hit. Light concussion, lost memory for about 2 days but all is fine now.

I've talked to some local friends that ride and they shy away from HJC. None would really comment on why. They'd just say that better helmets are out there.

So I'm not sure this will help you out. But I'd say I'd be a goner if I didn't have a helmet on. So it still did it's job.

I now have a HD Stealth helmet. Fits great and I love the flip up face.

Good luck with the search and the rest of your repairs.

A decision has been reached and I will be going with the Shark RSi baring a test fit. I will be trying one out when I got down to MA in a few weeks. If it fits well i will be purchasing. This is my first helmet over $150 so I am a little excited.

HJC are JUUUUNK.
Don't fit well and are noisy as hell even if you do find one that fits good.

no problems with my HJC cL-12....good fit, quieter than my ARAI quantum. every bodys head has a different shape, so there goes the "fit" thing !

Dong,
My Icon Alliance SS stood up awesomely after my crash the other day.
I guess one could read all the reviews you can but I tell ya, nothing compares to a crash test done on your own head.
The fit was great, ventilation was great, and it looked bad ass, of course it looked better before 100 feet of the Kangamangus highway scraped the shit out of the right side of it.
Check out www.rideicon.com for a pic. I always thought flat black was a bad ass color.

Me and some of my buddies have recently gotten some Scorpion helmets. Good fit, sweet graphics, and pretty quiet for the most part. The latch is similar to the shark helmets I believe. But for $150-$200 you can't go wrong with these!

Our local dealer rates the Shark RSI as #1 in their opinion, also the quietest.

HJC AC-12 (non carbon)
I find it a little loud but I wear earplugs 85% of the time. Of the few lids I've had, I like the AC-12 the best. It's rock solid at speed looking forward and while your head is turned to the side. I had a mirror tint lens for a while but replaced it with a black tinted one. I could see my own reflection in the silver one. My next helmet will be the AC-12 carbon. I know this helmet fits my lumpy head the best.

I have read alot of reviews also stating the optical clarity of the Shark's visors are unbelievable.
