I've got a 12s with D&D,k&n,and stock 05 air box.Would going to the open air box make any difference?Don't know if that would make the bike run hot? Oh,my outer air box cover is a 06 with the holes by the gas cap....Thanks

If you go to an open airbox, you better do something with the fuelling as well. Otherwise you are going to be running a bit lean.

I'd say spend $35 on a '07 airbox (buell opened them up quite a bit). It wont be as extreme as going to an open airbox, but would still make a difference. Though it sounds like a race ECM or a programmer would be the best bet.

Did you take the inner flange out from the left side of the bike?
That opens it up quite a bit.

Hey guys I do have the race ecm.so if I just buy the 07 air box lid, that will make a difference? But again I don't want to make it run to lean....right?or will it be OK..

You'd be okay. The airbox mods don't make a significant change to the fueling requirements from what I understand. Go for it!

I have an 07 XB9R Firebolt with a Drummer muffler, K&N air filter, and "ultimate air box kit" from Trojan Horse. The air box kit eliminates the snorkel and inner air box. I have the stock ECM and no TFI and far as I'm concerned the bike runs great! The air box kit definitely gave the bike a kick in the ass!

I got an 05, D&D, race ecm and filter....my advise. remove the snorkle and swiss cheese the holy hell out of the Inner box with a 1" hole saw and you'll be good to go. the hole saw is cheeper the the 07 inner and then it gives you something to do out in the garage too.

when you take he inner air box top off in the upper left courner where the pass thru to the left side air scoop is there is a rubber reducer to help quiet the intake noise for EPA reasons but it also impeads air flow, it takes a little muscle but just pull on it and wiggle it out. dont plug the hole up because you want the now larger hole to help feed the motor. If you pm me your address I will send you some pics, they are to big to compress down nicly to post.

Jammaster - if you have an 07 you shouldn't have a snorkel. Thus your added fuel capacity compared to the older bikes.

Brineusaf- What I meant by snorkel was the funnel looking rubber thing between the airfilter. I thought thats what the 'snorkel' was but I guess not? The airbox kit is just a fixture that covers what I thought was called the snorkel.

Jason,
That is your velocity stack. Please don't take that out (unless your putting in a FAST system)

I am talking about the same thing Tq_freak and others are talking about. Just the rubber thing that directs air from your left side scoop to your airbox. I think Tq_freak might be able to help with pics.
Its pretty simple, just a bit of muscle, and it'll come out.

Kowpow225,
No I didnt take it out. Like I said its just a cover that covers the inner part of the airfilter which includes the velocity stack (Now that I know what its called)

Will the removal of that rubber thing require remapping the ECM or is it not that big an adjustment?

I think what you're talking about is the "airbox base"?

The velocity stack connects the intake with the filter.

The snorkel is a rubber piece used to route air THROUGH the frame on the "older" model xb's.
