Hello I am new to the group. I currently have a 03 m620 Monster. I sometimes put 150 miles on it a day which is sort of killing my arse and legs. I have a Corbin seat coming in. In anycase I am also a short rider. I have a 28 inch inseam and im 5-4. I recently went down to buell and sat on their XB12Scg which I really liked. It designed with lower suspension and a a lower seat which was very confortable. Does anyone else have any coments about the newer Buell Bikes. I heard the older models had quality issues. Also would that be to big of a jump up for me from a M620. The XB12Scg has 84 Torqe at 103 HP. Neither of my bikes will most likely never see the track so I am not concerned about the high end side of performance. Just something that is enjoyable to ride on a daily basis. im 5'6" and find my 12scg a perfect fit for me. took it out on a 5 hour ride last friday expecting to come back with some aching, but not a thing. about the only bike i can really compare it with is my 2002 yamaha 600 fazer. although the yam is a better bike for motorways and fast roads due to it having a fairing the Buell beats it easily in the twisties. most of the roads around my way in the south west of England are well curvy due to it being a hilly area. thats the main reason i chose the 12 over the 9 as the extra torque is handy in the bends. the Buell feels lighter even at standstill due to its design. im even thinking of taking down to the alps in may instead of the fazer, going to be fun doing that i hope. as for going from a 620 duke to the XB9 or 12 i wouldnt worry about it. i reckon you will be impressed which ever motor you choose | ||

Your in luck. My wife is 5 foot. She to had a monster also, a 750. Which she loved. The buells are shorter from seat to handle bars. She now has a xb9 low. Fits here better. She likes the way it handles better to. Remember no valve adjustment with a buell. | ||

test ride it. buell dealers offer free test rides as long as you have proper endorsement. i've spent quite a bit of time on the 620 monster, great bike. the power difference won't be an issue. is the buell faster, yes, but were not talking gsxr1000 here lets be honest. just the fact that you are concerned about this issue shows enough intelligence for it to not be a problem! | ||

I have a 28" inseam as well. The Corbin on my Honda HawkGT is cut down but I'm still barely on the balls of my feet....but it's a wonderful machine.  I too am looking at the Scg models but have read some other suggestions on this board that said the better option might be to cut a seat down (maybe even lower a low seat) and still go with the standard suspension. Suggesting....that the lowered suspension on a Scg is too much of a compromise. Thoughts? | ||

I like the look of the Firbolt model more than the Lighting but they are at least 2.5 inches higher thans the Scg. With the different tail design I dont think I can make that seat any lower. It looks like there is hardly any cushion there as it is. I wonder if the shocks can be adjusted lower with out drastically changing the performance of the ride like the Scg Thanks Robert | ||

I'm 5'-5" with a 29" inseam and I just last month bought an XB12Scg. Despite the cold weather, I've already been out on it a bunch. I love it. I had a Honda Shadow because it and the other Harley knockoffs had that low seat height, but I never liked the feet forward position. The Buell riding position is so much better. I'm still getting used to the H-D V-twin shake which no Jap bike has. At first I thought something was wrong, but it's just the way it is. By mid-Spring, I won't even notice. Bill | ||

Hmm... How bad is this shake you speak of. The monster has Vibration as well. Nothing that would make any part of the body go numb though. Thanks Robert | ||

the shake is just at idle really. when the engine is running faster it smooths out a good bit. the vibrations are not like il4 engines with their high frequency buzz, more of a "rumble" i would call it and not annoying. leave a buell on its sidestand a watch people walk past with a puzzled look on their face | ||

I like the look of the Firebolt model more than the Lighting but they are at least 2.5 inches higher than the Scg. You can swap the Firebolt's forks, lower triple, rear shock and kick stand with that of a 12Scg or an 03-04 9SL to drop it roughly 1". Unless you have some one willing to trade parts this can be a bit pricey if you buy everything new. I know looks are very important but the 12Scg can do everything the Firebolt can do. I was literally inches away from buying a 9R when my little Scg caught my eye. She was just sitting there begging me to take her home. When a bike speaks to you, you had better listen! | ||

just got the scg a month or so ago. got it cause the wife can at least put her toes on the ground and the fact that it is only like 35 lbs heavier than the blast makes it a perfect bike for her to get once she gets comfortable with two wheels again. we did 125 miles the other day with her on the blast, which she did real well with. can't wait for her to get on the xb so she can realize what she really has to play with and want to play with. | ||

Thanks for all the feedback Looks like im still leaning towards the XB12Scg for the time being. I like the Triumph Tripple speeds but they are at least 2 inches higher than the Scg. | ||
