I had charging problems for a long time and the tender kept the bike alive. For long term storage I put in a a small battery cut off switch. Now every time I need the bike I put the key in and the starter turns the engine on a full charge. I put one on my Harley, but after 3 weeks it was still charging. Here is my top secret tip, make sure you have the positive cable on the positive post and the negative cable on the negative post. I've NEVER had a battery go bad, including the spare battery a friend gave me 3 years ago. It's been on that tender for 3 years sitting in my garage unused. They installed the hook-up for the Battery Tender on the bike before I bought it.
