Went out to the garage the other day to start the bike up from it's winter nap to find that my WileyCo exhaust is cracked(No wonder they discontinued them for the XB9R). So, I need to replace the exhaust. I checked out the American Sport Bike site and saw the write up on the different exhausts. For those of you that have the Spec Ops Pipe....what do you think of it? I was thinking Drummer, but they perform similar. And the savings of $150 has pushed me in this direction. The only statement that could change my mind was the sound of the pipe. They state that the SPec Ops is "Blattier" than the Drummer. I heard the sound files and I can hear the difference.....but in real life, is it ok? Looking for some input. Thanks. | ||

In my opinion, the Special OPS is a bit louder than the Drummer. When I bought mine, Odie had a money back guarantee policy, which pushed me into trying it. Damn decent fella to work with too. I've had it a couple of years now and I'm happy with the performance and sound. The stainless steel Drummer is darn purdy thou! | ||

I've had a Spec Ops pipe for about 6 months and love it. Odie is a stand up guy and guarantees his work. Everyone that comments on the pipe thinks it is awesome even though they are mostly IL4 riders. I've not heard the Drummer in person, but I hear they rock too. My Ops pipe is pretty thuddy. I too wanted more thud and less blat and am completely satisfied with Odie's pipe | ||

hopefully Odie is back to crankin some pipes out and when he sends me mine, i will let you know how sounds/performs.. even though im not looking for much on the performance side, just want something louder then stock!!! | ||

I also have the spec ops and love it. Odie made me a custom pipe without the servo for the race ECM, and dual outlets cause I had to have em, just in time for a very nice dragon run. Odie is great people. There are a lot of pipes out there to choose from, and your decision can be very tough. It's hard to beat the bang for the buck that he offers. It sounds like a well tuned harley at idle (if there is such a thing)  , and a big block mustang on avgas when ya nail it. I can quietly rumble out of the burbs every morning at 0500, and still blip the throttle in traffic and make the cell phone talking soccer moms in the SUVs tremble.  | ||

I have the special ops pipe for 2 weeks now and it is awesome. Well worth the money imo. It makes lane splitting safer here in San Diego...And you can keep your stock pipe if you want. | ||

Odie made me a sweet pipe for my 12 It sounds great & runs really well with the remapped ECM for it. We had it Hot Jet coated & it came up really well.............similar finish to the polished Buell Race pipe.     | ||

How much was it to get the odie muffler coated? Not much..........$40 for the Hot Jet coating but shipping was $30 each way Where did you get the anodized inspection covers? That is a nice looking pipe. I would like to go with Odie on a spec ops. As many of you had referred to the "bang for the buck". Looking at the test result comparisons.....you can't go wrong with it. My next problem is figuring what I need to put this exhaust on the bike. I bought the bike with the WileyCo can on it and no brackets or bolts or anything. So, I have to figure out what the damage is gonna be for bracketry. Thanks for your input guys. You helped out on my decision. Hopefully Odie is ok down there and will start up again soon. I have inspection due in April, so will need something by then. | ||

I've had a Special OPS can for over a year and I LOVE IT! It has just the right sound - a great rumble at idle and kickass when you open it up. I've dealt with Odie on it a few times and I do have to say his work is top notch. He helped me out when I switched to his pipe and I had accidentally broken my servo - he has some extras people had gotten rid of and didn't charge me. Definitely a great guy to work with. My daughter (now 2) loves it as well. She'd hear me pull up and know who was home! I don't think it blatty at all, and I've gotten quite a few nods of approval from others on the road. | ||

Nice mods! Not to hijack this thread, but what have any of you '05 12R bolters done with the ECM remap from Amerian Sportbike for Odie's pipe? I want the remap but don't I have to deal with the exhaust servo on my '05 12R? I know the setup for the remap is open airbox+k&n+pipe and rerouting of breathers. I can't find the servo emulator on American Sportbike's site for the open airbox mod anymore. Will my engine light come on if I don't have the emulator? The other option is snagging an '07 airbox (instead of the open airbox) to which I would have to get an '06 or '07 servo because the '05 servo will break on the '07 box. If I were to go this route, where can I get the servo? BTW Odie's top notch and would not hesitate to go to him again for any mods for any of my future Buells. | ||

Murdoch....when you state "remapped ecm" you are referring to the race ecm, correct?? | ||

The remapped ECM is the one from Al at American Sport Bike. Odie beta tested it, I was running the Race ECM for at least 6 months with the Special Ops until the custom map was available. The Race ECM did a pretty good job of fueling it I thought although it was never dynoed with it. The custom map feels a bit stronger especially top end & perhaps a bit smoother throughout complete rev range. It also has the advantage of operating the exhaust servo & interactive valve. But there was not a massive difference between the 2..........if $$ was a concern & you already had a Race ECM you could easily get away with just using it, or at least wait until ready to get the remapped ECM. I have the Special Ops pipe on my 12R and had the Drummer on my 9S. The Special Ops pipe is definitely louder than the Drummer. The performance is very good with a nice smooth power band all across the rev range. I am going to be upgrading to the Drummer SS soon so my Special Ops pipe will be for sale at that time. There is a back-log for the SS though, so it could be a few months. If anyone is interested in buying the Special Ops pipe from me for a good deal, let me know. | ||

Ok Murdoch....makes sense. I have an '03 XB9R which I believe didn't have the interactive valve or the servo. I could be wrong as I bought the bike used set up the way it is. | ||

Yeah Vader, The 9`s dont have the interactive exhaust valve or servo, just the 12`s. On the 9`S you could easily run the Race ECM as you dont have the valve issue. Cheers Murdoch | ||

Odie is still out there , in fact he is making me a pipe as we speak . All ready sent him the gash , should be here in a week or so ! I heard there's a 4 month wait for a Drummer . |
