They will go right on your bars if they are 7/8" - must move grips in about 1/2" - if your grips have end caps they will need to be cut off.

If you are using the stock bars the pin holes in the bars won't line up with the pin's on your bar control's. Better to but the adapter's so you don't have the problem.

I'd get the "plugs"... Don't want to hang an $80 mirror on a 50cent bar end plug. Otherwise you'll be doing some mods on the grips.
Just my $.02

They mount with a bar clamp, the adapter goes into the bar end - would still have to cut the end of grip for either, and most folks when changing out to non stock bars just wrap duc tape twice around the mounting area for the controls and don't bother trying to line up pin & hole - lol - this is an old tried and true method for mounting your controls on a handlebar - yes you could measure and re drill for the plastic pin, but why bother.

I have the adapters...didn't have to cut anything

I'd go with the adapters...that way there's no need to change your hand positions

Hey EZ!!!,
Just a note... The original XB caps are just that... Caps... The CRG barend inserts are very strong and compress to the ID of the bars. I still contend if you're gonna go for $160 worth of mirrors, you should INVEST in the barend clamps that go with the mirrors. Saying all this. I've currently got a full set of CRG's on the "bay" and am waiting to see where it ends.
Hope all is well... From Sunny FLA...

equates to the same thing

cutting/moving the grip and replacing an existing bar end do not equate to the same thing...and why move your hand position(s) in?
I replaced the original barend "caps" with heavier barends a while ago, so the adapter was logical for me....just replaced the existing barend

The caps and the grip ends do - your just confused and confrontational - Kaveman new instantly what I was talking about - every things fine here in foggy SF - lol - I'm working on the WB can, so I took a page from your book and put the D&D can in its place - interesting mix - lol - I went with Kellerman bar end signals so I used the clamps as you know;0)
