I’m sure not many of you have been following my ongoing saga with Jardine, so here is a brief background: I picked up the RT1 for by ’03 XB9R and the L pipe (pipe that goes from the collector to the muffler) did not line up at all. I had to grind it down and bend the bracket as well as drill out the mounting hole. No big deal, easy stuff to do. But once I had it all mounted and torqued down, I found a pretty serious exhaust leak at the point where the L pipe meets the collector. I ensured the pipe was all the way seated on the collector and rotated the clamp, but the leak never subsided.

I e-mailed Jardine and they asked for pictures. Cool. Pictures sent. Then…………….. nothing. I e-mailed them yesterday asking for the status (for the second time) of my complaint and received this in response: I think you should try to get in touch with the guys at American Sportbike. They have installed and tested all the brands of exhaust for your bike. They also have tested lots of settings for your fuel injection. They will be able to help you. www.americansportbike.com

I responded explaining that Al’s exhaust shoot-out was what convinced me to purchase a Jardine in the first place, and that my fuel injection settings are just fine and have nothing to do with a poorly made pipe leaking exhaust.

I know a few others on the board have had similar issues. Please sound off on what issues you have had with your Jardine. I would like to send them a link to this so they can see that my issue is not an isolated problem.

I have an RT 1 on my 9S and it simply slips on over the end of the collector and is held on with two springs up front.

I Have not had any leak issues. Perhaps your collector was bent to begin with?

Are you saying that there is no bracket that comes off your L pipe and bolts on the motor? Because that is the part I was talking about having to modify.

I checked and my collector is not damaged in any way. Here is what I have figured out: At the top part of the L pipe they cut three notches. This is to allow the pipe to contract when you tighten the clamp, thus attaching the two together. When you cut metal, you get burrs. These burrs would prevent you from sliding the pipe around the collector and must be ground off. It looks like they just ground away a little bit too much metal creating a cavity that is allowing the exhaust to escape.

So I know that not everyone had that problem, but I also know at least three people that have. One used high temp sealant, and the rest just let it leak. I don’t think that Jardine sending me a new L pipe is an unreasonable request. Especially after e-mailing them pics of the inside of the pipe.

My bike already had the RT 1 installed when i bought it used. Is the L-pipe you speak of come with the Rt 1 or is it part of the original exhaust?

I liked my Jardine until I put a straight pipe through it? Now I love it.

Holling, yes it is the L pipe (I think they call it an S pipe actually) that came with the RT1. It connects to the collector w/ a clamp and the muffler w/ springs.

Danman2540, Did you loose power by running the straight pipe through the muffler. I did the same thing on my tuber in 1997. It sounded really cool but seemed to have a slight power loss. Any info?
