Since buying my CityX i've gained a lot of opposition from friends and riding buddies, they hate this thing start to finish. Yet all but one have had the balls to get on and ride it. My brother owner of a GSXR1000 was instantly converted into a fan in a 1 mile ride around the block. but all others are opposed to even talking about it. I was so proud to finally buy the machine i have thought about for so long and it absolutely cracks me up at the reactions i get now. anyone else go through this? | ||

I have a racing friend who said the same kind of stuff. It got real quiet after my 9SX was all over of the back tire of his R1 through a very twisty section of north Ga. I was opposed for years until I rode one. Been a rabid fan ever since. Who cares what other people think anyway? | ||

Buells for the most part around here are pretty well received. Nothing gets a large crowd quicker at Bike Night than a group of Buells. And we definitely have earned our respect in the hills. Every once in a while I'll hear ill words towards them, usually from the bikeless. The last time I heard any bad mouthing was a couple of Summers ago. The guy was ragging on my bike about how slow he thought it was, I asked him what he rode, and he pointed at an older Suzuki Katana, so I said, Wanna race? He quickly declined and just as quickly stopped talking. | ||

Its a Buellers way of life. We are constantly bashed and looked down upon. I kinda like being the "underdog". Most all my friends ride import bikes or Harley's and talk SO much trash. Until they take one for a ride, then they become believers, but still won't admit it to their other friends. MOST people need to fit in with some kind of something, or see the GSXR 1000 has won 3 years in a row and think, I gotta one of them race replicas and I'll be kool. | ||

My favorite trick it to take a wolf pack of busa and gsxrs out on a bendy tight road and then hit the dirt and accelerate. Have a tough enough time hanging in the corners and the dirt just stops them dead in their tracks. Get on with the bendy and Dirty. | ||

im with tiger... thats kinda weird all of my friends that ride have no problems with my bike almost all of them at one time or another have asked to ride it and really dug it....it may not be for them but they sure love knowing somebody that has one...sounds like a bunch of young punks that think their gixxer is the shit cause the stat sheets say so....givem a couple of years man when the buell name hits the big time u will have been there already and then its ur turn to laugh just make sure u takem out on a nice long mountain road and see whos bike is so great when they are all worn out from shifting every five seconds to keep up...ive been there on my R-1 its a lot of work ridin something like that on a long mountain road with a bunch of turns...hell its a lot of work ridin something like that around the city. | ||

What JohnnyLB said. Or use one of these  as they try to follow you through the twisties! I'm very prejudice towards my Buells, but I'm open minded enough to ride any other bikes that I can. Then I am cordial enough to thank whomever for the opportunity to try their bike, and just silently grin under my helmet for not having to be stuck riding that. | ||

Don't get me wrong the reactions i'm getting mean jack to me...i just find it humorous. It amazes me how man people are stuck to a cookie cutter bike way of thinking "if it isn't the same then it sucks!" i've ridden for nearly 25 years since i was a kid and i've loved all my bikes one way or another. the difference being i've grown to love them over time of ownership and through modifying the hell out of them to get what i wanted. Enter my buell: no test ride, selected which model i wanted and within 1/4 mile of dealership i was in love with this bike...i am obsessed. i found myself in awe of what a great machine i had just bought..no additional bullshit all over it to cover up all of the very innovative mechanical parts. that most companies would try to hide in fear they would be called different. So in the end they can dislike it if they want.....cause they're gonna dislike even more when the twisties come!!! | ||

After buying my City X I noticed I seen to have one of the only Buells around. I have only ever seen one or two others on the street and never another City X. It gets noticed where ever I go, and I gets lots of questions from people who don't have a clue what it is. I park it at work beside all the Harleys, people call it the "dirt bike/sport bike thing". Most think it's a cool bike, I favorite response was "I could get into so much sh"" on that thing and lose my licence". I like having something different and the attention it gets, this never happened on my Ninja. | ||

toona and I have the only buells around our area, well there is a black 9 with an american flag on the side. I saw it once late summer, maybe someone else got a good head on their shoulders a little late, BUT anyway I love riding anywhere down a back road or down the main drag in city and look at all these peoples faces, they just dont know what to think. I love it. In the city 10 miles from us they have a cruize in for old cars, import cars, and a bunch of punks bring their jap bikes that daddy bought them. My dad takes his car and I follow behind him on the bike(age before beauty)as soon as I get off my bike people flock it. makes my day. | ||

I've actually had the opposite reaction to my CityX. All of my friends have had nothing but praise for it and people that I've met on the streets seem to dig on it as well. I even had a guy on a brand new BMW GS Adventure pull up next to me to tell me that he almost bought my exact bike and really liked it but wanted the Adventure a little bit more. | ||

Most of my Riding buddies love my Kick Ash colored 2006 CityX. I handed the key to one of my uncles, 5 minutes later he returned, threw me the keys and as he was running in the house told me he had to get inside before the cops show up. He did 0 to 75 before he was even paying attention and blew past a cop in a Quiktrip parking lot. I got inside and he couldn't wipe the grin form his face. I feel that way all riding season long. A huge step up from my 1979 Yamaha 750 triple. | ||

I ride my xb12r to work and park it with the other guys bikes (you know them:GSXRs,R1s,Ninjas, and other metoo bikes) but I seem to only hear comments like: Wow, your bike is nice, but who owns that really cool looking one with the amber wheels? I wonder if its as fast as it looks? I just smirk.  | ||

Comments I have received from the general public looking me over in parking lots has ranged from, "That thing looks fast", to (watching it idle with the tires literally vibrating on the ground) "I'm sure that's way too much bike for me - you must have big clanking brass ones to ride that." Everyone thinks it's beautiful to look at, and the general opinion is it looks like speed incarnate. I agree and find myself puttering around the garage just looking at it and admiring it's clean lines on those cold winter days when I'm not riding. Otherwise, the guys I ride with typically run liter class race replicas. They are very impressed I can outrun them through the first couple of gears and lead the pack on tight twisties. However, they consider the bike somewhat of a novelty and don't consider it "a real crotch rocket." They like it, but don't quite get it. That's OK though, I don't want them to get it. Then they'd all have one and I'd feel like a poser for having the same bike as everyone else. When the chicks come over to have a look at the bikes, I always get the biggest crowd. Wanting to sit on it while it idles is an almost automatic request. They say it looks tougher than the race replicas, sounds better, and generally think it's much more exotic. Asking if it's Italian or something is also a common question from the chicks. I just grin and get their phone numbers. | ||

Now that B.R.A.G. is gone, we have been using the H.O.G. group for insurance (sine we are members by default anyways) You want to talk about a bunch of riders that dont get Buells? Its ok, we don't get why anyone would ever ride 900lbs of wannabego of the touring ULTRA. | ||

I had the same thing happen when I lived in Valdosta GA. It was an Air Force and college town. Everyone on their Kawayamasuki. They would all ask about my bike. I guess i could have lied and told them it was a 600cc because no one knew what it was. I could smoke most of them 0 to about 80. It was fun. Then the ones who did know what it was couldn't believe that I could out run them to about 80 mph because they had like 70 more horse power than me. Fun and different. That's why I have it. | ||

I gave one of our riding group an extended opportunity to ride on a group outing. When we got off, he said "I finally get this bike! I didn't before. I FINALLY GET THIS BIKE!" He then asked if he could ride a little longer. Not wanting to deny someone else the simple pleasures in life, I endured a few more miles on his VStrom.  Getting back on the Uly made me feel I was riding a powered unicycle pulling a trailer. I was glad to be back home on the ULY! I already "get it". | ||

I generally get positive responses to my bike--those who know what it is have often never seen one before, and think it's cool, and those who don't know what it is ("Is that a Ducati"--"No, it's a Buell"--"So, who makes that?) also think it's cool. The one guy who did give me a hard time about it is the owner of a Ducati specialty shop. He gave me a bit of advice on suspension tuning, then proceeded to completely lose me in the twisties on his 999R (did I mention he's a former roadracer?--I can hang with most guys I've ridden with, but this guy is FAST). |
