Hey guys...

I bought a Buell Race filter from my dealer on sale, but I'm concerned about any product revisions that may have occurred. I don't have the part number off hand, but it has the blue silicone to seal it.

The reason I ask is I had a similar type filter for my Sportster and it got holes in it after only 5000 miles. That filter had been revised and was supposedly able to last much longer.

Did the Buell filters suffer this same fate? If so, what part number do I want to have? Do the new ones hold up well?

I'll just return it and buy a K&N if it's going to fall apart on me...

According to Daves, (I asked this very question) The Race Kits ( I know you don't have the race kit) came with K&N, A Blue Silicone Rimmed Filter, and a Black Rimmed Filter. I can tell you that I have the Black one (similar to the Blue one) and it's held up outstandingly well. I love it.

The stock filter in my 04 12r had a blue rim.
The filter element itself got kinda fuzzy looking, After only 3500 miles. (Yeah I know only 3500 miles I should be ashamed) Just replaced it with a K&N from Al.(Thanks AL!)

This isn't a stock filter. It's a race kit filter, not the K&N, and it has a blue rim.

Well, hopefully someone can answer this for anyone else who's wondering, but I returned my Race Filter and got a K&N instead. Just seems like the safer bet.

The updated Buell race filter has the blue silicone seal end pieces, it is washable, you don't have to oil it. I am using it now. I also have the K&N Buell race filter with the black ends and upon real close inspection noticed it has holes in it where the wire mesh is molded into the end seals so I stopped using it.

You have the updated Buell race filter. It doesn't have to be oiled like the K&N it replaced. I don't know if it flows more or less.

I sell more K&N's probably because of the name though. They still have the Buell part number stamped on them.

K&N's flow a ton of dirt. If you have the updated one, and it performs well, you are lucky.

I don't have the Buell filter anymore. I actually had it and was inspecting it BRAND NEW and was finding a few small holes already, and noticed places where the medium was VERY thin and it was likley more holes would show up. Also, I had tried washing the filter from my Sportster which was the same type, and it really didn't seem to get any cleaner.

I bought the Buell race filter at 15% off during a sale. I returned it and got a K&N at full price and still got $8 back.
