Out of his own mouth......
Inspiration for Design:
My inspiration came from thinking about what the bike was made to do and where it would be ridden. The Super TT looks like it came from an off-road motorcycle, and you often see those dressed in camouflage. So I looked at the surroundings of an urban environment and knew it had to be made of stone. The globe theme represents the "go anywhere" philosophy associated with motorcycle riding.

We dismissed the world (globe) as being flat a few years ago and surprisingly it goes on further than the coasts of N and S America......well it does to those of us who have passports....lol.

Just chatting with a buddy that still works for HD...he agrees with me, that design was the poorest of the ten. Oh well...I voted for our homey.

Well...seeing that this is the hands down best Buelling place on the web I'll start by thanking everyone that voted for my design (I'm Paul the guy who won the bike)...Just a little background...I used to belong to this forum a long, long, long, time ago when I first bought my X1 back in 2002. I was very into Buells but after trying to convince every guy on a jap bike that Buell was a much better "Street" machine to no extent I eventually gave up and did the lone wolf thing for many years...so Buell is defiantly in my blood and I still wouldn't sell my X1 for anything...well unless it was enough to buy a couple X1's...nah...anyhow I do have to agree that I've seen designs here and other places that I thought were better than mine...people...you really need to pay attention to the guidelines to the contests! I'm currently an art student so I know how hard it is to bend your vision just to meet rules...but hey, it was for a freakin' motorcycle! Disqualifying yourself because you painted a section that was not designated to be painted or using copyrighted material is such a dumb way to lose. I was actually working on a different design when I stopped and looked at what Eric Buell had been doing with his designs lately...I own one of the Red Stripe limited edition X1's and think racing stripes on a Buell is way cool! but looking at the designs that he had produced for the XB's, the first two had nothing to do with stripes and the third I think was produced because of rider feedback. So with that in mind I stayed away from any strips or lines...although the design with the road and the number 7 was my favorite! It was really cool...I just wondered if it had been rendered from a photograph? which was another no-no in the guidelines. I've spoken to the marketing manager several times since the contest ended and asked him about the copyrighted material and he replied that they didn't want to stop the contest but they more than likely would have to have disqualified any entry that used copyrighted material...I also asked him if Buell would be releasing any type of sport-touring model...and of course he was not at liberty to say...bummer! And after the contest deadline had hit I realized that I had only included the western hemisphere in my design...I'm going to see if they'll let me put Europe on the hidden number panel...although I do have to agree to back my BS on my design...it is an "American" motorcycle ;P ...well I've re-registered and if I don't get boo'd off of here posting such a long drawn-out, talk about nothing but myself discussion...well then I'll be as active as possible...especially since Buell has become more popular...In the Tampa Bay area there isn't even a local BRAG group...the closest is in Lakeland! Well Ride safe...and if your ever in the St. Pete/ Tampa area and want to go riding look me up.

Thanks for the personal response. Good design and not my favorite either. Glad the bike was won by a Buell enthusiast.

Glad the bike was won by a Buell enthusiast.

Just out of curiosity, was the question asked about your current (brand) motorcycle ownership?

Not much on really, too early in the season, however, I'm sure you will have a great time whatever. If you haven't been there before you will have to do the tourist routes, Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula and also Connors Pass for some spectacular views etc. Most of the pubs will have live Trad music. Enjoy!!

Awesome, supposedly there is a film festival that starts on the 23rd, so I hope to make a day of that.
We haven't been there before so I am looking forward to seeing everything. Hear they have spectacular scenery.

One thing to remember, Gaelic is the spoken language and all road signs are in gaelic..they hold onto there past!!
However, 2, 3, 4, 5 pints of Guinness is a well known phrase which the pub landlord will understand.....;)

Check out Skellig....always worth a trip across the water and a very hard climb to the Monastry.

Around the Dingle Peninsula you will see signs for prehistoric houses, these are in farmers fields right on the edge of the coast road and usually cost a few $ to access...worth a stop.
Also bear in mind the roads are narrow and very bumpy, by USA standards and very twisty with big drops into the Atlantic so take it easy.
The Ring of Kerry, its better to do it anti clockwise as most of the tourist buses do it the other way round....but expect to meet a coach on your side of the road going round tight corners.
On the West Coast there is loads of places to see all spectacular but don't want to overload you to much...just chill and you'll have a great time.

Awesome, thanks for the info.

I'm in Germany, so I might have to go again this summer if it is nice. Ryan Air is very cheap.

Ok...Just got off the phone with Buell and they are giving me the rights to do what ever I want to the hidden number plate...so...do I just put more of North America on it or do I try to expand it to Europe?
