Well, here is my situation.

Last year I hacked the tail, looks good. Since there was the running light, and the clear pane of plastic on the bottom of the taillight, I just cut a little square out to light the plate.

Over the winter I installed the clear alternatives integrated tail... problem being... there is no running light hitting the plate now, and I have to get it inspected soon.

I am curious as to how you's are lighting your plates.

I currently have a LED bolt light on the plate, but am not sure if that is going to be enough or not to pass inspection.

FWIW, I had 2 bolt led lights, but I pulled the wiring out of the one... and then proceeded to smash the light with my boot out of anger... cheaply made.

Anyways... lets see your mounting position/hardware/lighting setup... so maybe I can copy it.

Thanks.

Ok... after some just sitting in the garage staring at the end of my bike...

I started to toy around with a small 90* bracket I had on a dowel to hold spray bottles.

Anyways, took the 90* bracket... and stretched it to about 135*... drilled it out to fit the bolts... and bolted it on.

Now all I need is to find some more LED bolt lights.

A friend of mine uses one of theose accent lights that some people put on the hood of their car. They're small, and cheap.

I don't use any dedicated light on my tail; I've found that the taillight illuminates the tag fine. I didn't even notch out the metal to uncover the clear lens on the bottom of the taillight.
The inspections around here aren't all that thorough.

Lite n Bolz by DEI is perhaps better constructed version of what it sounds like you were using. It is a stainless license plate bolt with a led built in.

sss

I used these satisfactorily on my Lightning with Cheese grater removed.

As far as your current set up is concerned, perhaps you could post of picture of it?

I got the 10mm LED Bolt Lights from superbrightleds.com , I am unsure of whether I was being to rough, or if the product was indeed cheap.

Anyways, I just ordered some more, including some spares.

Below is how it is going to be setup.
Sorry for the crappy picture.
You can see the led light on there as well.
The light fits great when coupled with a rubber grommet - which utilizes one of the holes already in the tail.

Let me know what you think.
Oh, and these brackets cost something like .49 cents. And the lights are 3$ a pop.

in the picture both brackets aren't mounted, and only 1 led light is installed.

I will follow up (if this thread stays alive, in a week when the other lights arrive with final mounting pictures (good ones).

Not only does your next picture need to be better, it needs to be a little bit bigger.

you want bigger?
I can post larger pictures if you'd like.

I know the picture is big, but I'm not distorting anyone's thread but my own.

Right... I was just curious.

There aren't going to be any other lights behind me when I go to get it inspected.

They close the garage door for the inspection, so lighting will be limited.

I've already solved my situation, but I looked for ways do avoid it beforehand.

Hey Kyle, how are you able to post pics that big? I'm apparently restricted to 800x600 and low res to boot.

Phil - I host all of the pics I usually post on here at freeimagehosting.net
It's free, they organize the pictures for you - start an account- it's free.

And they give you codes for different forums, the ability to post "clickable" thumbnails instead of full size, ect.

It's nice for showing great detail in forums, and getting around size restrictions.

It's important to keep in mind that sometimes when you post the large pictures, that some people will have to scroll sideways to see the entire thing - so sometimes it is "nicer" to post the thumbnail and instruct people to click on it to see the full size picture.

I live in PA and they tend to act strict about alot of stuff, but then it really comes down to the place you get it inspected. Most Harleys are NOT street legal. Their exhausts are waaay to loud, yet inspection shops pass them all the time. Same goes for License plate lights.
At night, if a cop is behind you, his headlights are shining on your license plate, there is no way for him to tell if you have a light or not. LED turn Signals are also illegal in most states. the bulbs need to be a certain size and the led lights are too small. Doesnt matter that they put out more light. They pass all the time too.
I wouldnt sweat it until you actually fail

I believe European inspections are more stringent than those in the US.

Indeed.

They failed my friends R6 last year because his plate wasn't didn't have a light. I'm just saving myself the trouble.

The lights should be in sometime this coming week.
