Hey there fellow badwebers
I had put my buell down for the winter project phase and she is now complete.Well
all except the mirrors i have order from trak-tek but they should be here any day.
Any ways .. all looks sweet except one thing. The rims are that translucent amber. Now since the bike blacked out with shiny add on's the amber rims look quite out of place to my eye and am lookin to see if anyone here would be interested in trading, for either a set of silver or black rims. The rims i have are from an 04 and appear in mint condition (if chipped any where i cant find it)let me know if anyones interested.(rims only no rubber). If not the ambers should be for sale in approx 1 mo time. thanks all..

I hope you can find someone to trade with you, but if you can't just take them in to powdercoating. I just had my fork tubes, bases and wheel powdercoated black for about $175. Of course there is additional costs for going this route, but it isn't to bad. Here is the breakdown for what I'm doing right now:

Wheels:
Conti Sport-Attackes- $205
Powdercoating- $90
Bearings- $40 ?I think.
Labor- $100
Total- $435 ($230 without new tires.)


Forks:
Powdercoating- $85
Labor- $120
Total- $205

Wow, I haven't figured out the total before just now. Not to bad for just doing the wheels without tires though, so it is a pretty good option.

Thanks Lone! That is exactly what mine look like, but unfortunately the last I was told they are more like the 2nd pic than the other two right now. I'm hoping that the shop will have my forks back together, tires on and bearings in this week. If that happens I'll be putting it together this week and posting some pics this weekend. I also painted my triple tree black myself, bought a double bubble dark smoke windscreen, black levers and a right side scoop. Before this next season I'm also going to get my header/exhaust jet hot coated black and paint the case covers too. The most involved stuff is pretty much over, so I'll probably give it a rest till about March and finish out the rest of the stuff then.

BTW, you could probably spend less than $100 on labor for the wheels. A couple of the rotor bolts were seized pretty bad and required some extra persuasion to come off. The labor should just be taking the tires off and on and pressing the bearings in and out. I think that if you have a good shop that does most of the work for you that price could be cut in half.

This has become a pretty expensive off-season, but I just can't stand to have things half completed. When I start doing something I pretty much have to get it all done at once, or it drives me crazy. I am still considering buying a Race ECM or the direct link this year too, but I've already overspent pretty badly. I haven't had any problems with Jardine, K&N and stock ECM in 10,000 miles, so I'm not sure what I want to do. The Race ECM is the quick fix but it still won't be perfect, and the direct link is already pretty expensive and I would have to pay for some dyno time on top of the regular price. I'll probably wait another season.

Hey LoneXB...your forks look really, really good and I'm thinking of doing the same. Is that powdercoat finish a matte black (flat)?

thanks for the kind words. yes it is flat black.

as far as powder coating my rims IIrc it only cost me around $190 or so for the set. i did strip the rims down and put them back together myself.that includes all new mounting hardware and bearings.

sweet idea.. powder coat.. i like it..
so i asked the guy at the service desk of my friendly neighborhood buell dealer. where they get their powder coating done. right of the top of his head he gave me the name and location.. said they where super good, they do bike parts for Calgary Harley/Buell on a regular basis, and to top it off they are inexpensive.Right on im gonna take in more than just the wheels.. Thanks for the idea Olin

If you want to have black rims I found that it was less of a P.I.T.A. to just sell my amber rims and buy the black ones.


the all black Buells are becoming more popular these days!!!

Hey Damnut, did you pull the timing cover off to paint it or tape it off and spray away? I'm going to paint the primary and timing covers, but I've heard that the timinig cover is a bitch to mess with. I was thinking that I might just leave it on the bike when I paint it. What do you think?

BTW, I really like what you've done with your bike Damnut! Once I've got everything back on my bike will be very similar except with red plastics, and my frame and swingarm are blacked out too. I'm thinking that I might try to find some red paint to match my plastics that I can use to paint all of the scoops and covers. I'd like to paint my right side scoop that is in the mail, left side scoop, belt pulley cover, oil cooler cover and the little rear fender the same red color as the plastics. We'll see how it goes.

You might want to look at Dammut's Profile. He tells you in it that they were powder coated. So you know that they had to be removed.

Yea all powdercoated. and yes the timing cover was a bitch. ah well not soooo bad but definitely harder than the primary. I did all my changes after I wrecked my bike and rebuilt it the way I wanted to. It took a few months to do but it's almost finished. Here a few shots of it after the crash and when I was working on it.
