I would love to see Buells take on this type of design, perhaps with a Buell IL4 even.

IL4 in a Buell?

I'm all for a new powerplant, but not an IL4. If you want a cookie cutter bike, like that TVR, there are plenty out there to choose from. And rest easy, it doesn't really matter which one you pick, cause they're all the same.

The TVR wasn't a cookie cutter bike. It was a mock design sketch from Glynn Kerr.

As for IL 4 engines, nothing could be further from the truth to say they're all the same.

Are you suggesting Buells XB engine is the same as an Iron Head Sportster?

Does it have to be that every time someone says they'd like something different from the traditional where Buell is concerned, that some feel the need to pipe in with their useless comments?

I know plenty about IL 4 bikes, and really don't need the advice of someone who clearly doesn't if I were in the market for one. Oh I am. The cookie cutter Brutale 910. God they're so like every other IL4 - NOT!

Well I'm going to continue along the IL 4 theme for just a moment.

Air cooled and carburated with straight through pipes in a Buell type tube frame. Am I the only one that thinks a finned IL4 air cooled engine looks the biz?

How about the liquid cooled GSXR engines they styled the fins onto. They look great don't they?

Personally, IMHO, I think the MV Agusta F-4 1000, Tamburini, is the most beautiful thing ever produced, with two wheels.
Performance & handling are very impressive also. As is the over $42K price!

Actually Rocketman... I love the old Kawi air-cooled fours... One reason why I will never, ever be selling my 2000 ZR-7 750. It does look the "biz", all-blacked out with no unsightly radiator to spoil the beauty. Bulletproof engine. It's a classic, race proven engine that got replaced with something without any soul. That engine in the new Z750 is hideous, not even mentioning the water appendages attached to it. Too bad they couldn't think to make it look good.
Don't assume all Buell fanatics hate Japanese or other make bikes. Now, one of my life long dreams has been to own an original Z1 to go along with my '72 H2. The H2 triple 2-stroke also looks the biz and IMO those engines were under-rated in power.

I still think Buell needs to stay with an air-cooled 45 degree V-twin, whatever they decide to do to evolve the engine 'cause I think its obvious from my handle here that I'm a fan of the configuration. Besides, the configuration is pretty much required to keep the tight chassis specs.

I wouldn't mind seeing something similar to the Wakan in the next generation Buell. I want to see all of the engine. I think if Buell did something like the Wakan it would be much better than the Wakan and wouldn't cost 35K... maybe they could go with a single large backbone fueltank/frame instead of the twin spar-type fueltank/frame that hides too much of the engine? I dunno... just had a thought.

I just went to the Kawi site to look at the z750... I guess it's discontinued, at least here in the U.S. I guess it wasn't as popular compared to the old ZR-7 air-cooled.

That's an accurate statement. I had 3 pals snatch up some of the first Series Oro thinking they'd be collector bikes....they never dreamed they'd be such great riders.

And you feel obliged to make it personal.

I too am a fan of the simple, air cooled approach. However, I have learned so much from the great engine debates right here on BadWeB and enjoy hearing both sides of the argument. If we all agreed on everything, think what a boring world it would be. But making it personal is not acceptable.

I like IL4's on some bikes, the old kawi's were sweet, I had 77 LTD 550 sweet bike. I love parallel twin RD and TZ models, basically anything air cooled makes a nice looking engine, IMHO that is. I like the performance of liquid cooling, I would think that Buell could design and produce a sweet bike no matter the configuration of the engine. It is a matter of different lines of bikes...and that depends on the demand and the business plan...ya never know, if customer's demand it, it will happen, if they don't truly DEMAND a change, it may or may not happen. I just hope they keep at least one of each line going, like revive the tuber, keep a push rod lump, and hopefully design something exotic and cutting edge for me to blow some cash on..soon.

The thing that I find so amusing is how everyone here covets the XBRR, yet looking at an XBRR Vs. any fully faired I-4, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference if you had never seen each bike before!
Kinda makes the whole "looks" thing a moot point!

I don't see how form to function is moot...looks are a big deal man, just like anything else, it may function perfectly, but if it is really ugly, that's to the bone man. i don't remember seeing any posts about the looks of an XBRR except one that read " I wish the tail section was not so bulky" or something to that effect..a fully faired bike Vs another fully faired bike will exhibit less differences than two naked bikes...so what is your point Bob? Many people including myself would love a factory made fully faired machine..I could less if you don't know it is not an IL4 by looking at it...but if it didn't look GOOD I would not shell out the dough.

V-Twin or not, the XBRR is a hideous bike. I have nothing against full fairings, but that thing looks like a cartoon.

Just to capitalise on you mentioning your H2 (you lucky devil), I've owned loads of two strokes - when they were in fashion, lol. I especially liked my KH400. Thinking I'd probably never own a two stroke road bike in my life again, I found myself the proud owner of an RGV250P after my S1W had some serious downtime. The RGV (the pic's in the archives somewhere but I can't find it ) was a superb bike, and one of the best looking race rep's ever to come out of Japan. If it were not for funding in part the 916 purchase, I'd still own the RGV today. Yep, definitely regret losing that one.

When I say I like IL 4's it would be nice to see Erik's interpretation of one. Especially an air cooled one. IL 4's have character and soul just like any other engine. Just different, that's all.

Someone posted this IL 4 link the other day. If this doesn't get you seeing how much fun an IL 4 can be then I'm sorry for those of you. You don't know what you're missing.

Lol Rocket. That go-cart is exactly something my brothers and I would do if we had an engine laying around and a cart to put it in! That would be too much fun. You're right, if theoretically, Buell did make a four it would be interesting to see their twist on it. I think a vertical twin like the MZ1000 would pretty cool. It doesn't look very pretty as it is, but the technology is very interesting. Definitely something outside the box like Buells are.

All said... I still love my Thunderstorm.

Liqourbox... I covet the RR's engine and I want that engine in a naked package, not covered up like in the race bike. Personally, I don't really like the way the RR looks. Too balloon-y looking. As far as race-replica's go... my favorite as far as looks is the new R6. The profile of that bike is very good looking and I like the way they did the muffler on it.

Not come across Pivotal before. Looks very interesting. Will have to engross myself in their site. Ta. I like the look of the motor. Mean as a ticking bomb.

The R6looks the biz in red and white. All other colours are lost on it.
