I really love the 9 revs though I'd love to have more power and have best of both worlds..

I've been tinkering with the Idea of a Big bore kit... Who has done it and what do you think?

A few I've found..

NRHS/ 1200cc Kit With Axtell Cylinders and forged Hurricane pistons with tool steel wrist pins, Total Seal rings...

RP/XB9 Big bore kit, 1170cc 3-13/16 bore Revolution cylinders 10.5:1 pistons, pins, clips, rings head and base gaskets

The mod will take some machining of the case and I'm not sure if doing the heads would be worth the gain. Swap for a 12 intake and ECM...

Any help or Ideas or suggestions would be appreciated..

Thanks......

The biggest bore you can do on the XB cases is 3 13/16 (1169 cc) - you're really close to the studs. There might be custom pistons which you could get for a few more cc - but they're not commonly used. There are tons of 3 13/16 pistons and cylinders out there from various sources.

The bore to 3 13/16 is actually a much better motor if you're wanting to get a more "racier" feeling machine.

The Formula USA machines pretty much all went that route - 3 1/8 stroke (XB-9) and punch out to 3 13/16 bore. The motor can spin much quicker and you don't give up the sweet throttle response of the 9.

The power you get is much more usable than you'd think. You don't sacrifice reliability IF you're not constantly bumping off the rev limiter. IF you ARE, you want to consider better valve train (springs, guides, seats, roller rockers AND VALVES)

I'd heartily recommend the big-bore XB9 as a good mod. Case boring is something like $250-$350 depending on where you get it done (assuming you have torn down the engine yourself)

Depending on your budget, as long as you have your motor all torn apart, you might consider higher lift cams. Just don't go bumping up your compression ratio a whole lot in a search for more power. High compression and lots of high revs are where you are gonna start hurting your motor.

There are parts and pieces that make sense to add to the list and things to avoid spending your hard-earned $$$ on - but to use the over-used phrase here: "there's no substitute for cubic inches" - the 1169cc mod is a good one if you can afford it.

PM me if you want, I've actually compiled a long list of parts and pieces that are worth looking at using IF you are wanting to do the work yourself. If you are willing to pay somebody to do the work, you are much better off crating/shipping the motor to somebody and having them do all the mods - but that is gonna set you back nearly $8 grand for motor mods - it's a long list.

The biggest bore is 3 7/8 which takes You slightly above 1200cc.
Still the 1169 is a pretty nice engine. With some head modifications it can take You to around 110 hp rear wheel with stock cams.

Hi Hogs,

unfortunately no real news today. Have to set up my brand new dyno these days but I don´t find the time to do so because it´s heads, heads and heads to rework all day at the moment.
But I will send You a pm when there´s any news (don´t expect it too soon as there is so many head work to do).

Best regards
Alex
