I want to lean forward a little more then the stock bars allow, i was thinking of getting some cr low pro tapers. I can't afford the crossroad bars at this time. What do you think? | ||

i love my Azonic A-3s with CR Low bend. price is right for some experimentation. waiting on delivery of my Rizoma 29mm conical bars + clamp, hoping i liked them as much as the Azonics 'cause they weren't cheap!  | ||

cr lows are a good economical choice, black ones look nice, I had cr lows from rocky mounatain atv. before I found some used cross roads | ||

One word: CROSSROADS! One of my most favorite mods, I have the zero degree from American Sport Bike and love them. The position is much better for the twisties and seem to be better on my low back too since you put more weight on your wrists and forearms.  | ||

Chase, The black bars look great! Now that we own the Crossfire line of Crossroads Buell products, including those bars, I'll be getting products machined and will likely offer some of the parts in Black anodize. Those bars are sure a good candidate for it, it looks very nice that way. Al | ||

Thanks Al! Mine have been powdercoated gloss black (2 layers of color). I love the look, but honestly if there was any way you could leave them looking CNC'd billet they would be way cool. I love the freshly machined look and it seems to be a hot seller now days. | ||

This seems as good a place as any to ask this question: what's the difference between the Crossroads 0' and -7' bars? I understand the math, but I was curious why everyone seems to go with the 0 instead of the -7. ~SM | ||

I know this might be heresy But if you are looking for a bit of lean in from the stock position and keep the same ergonomics- I put a set of Kawasaki ZRX 1200 bars on mine. They kept the same grip angle and lowered the bars about 3/4 inch- more significant than you would think And they are black to boot. | ||

SM i had a chance to ride the 0's before i bought. i liked them, but... I got the -7's. The difference in riding position isn't as great as you might think, but the -7's are noticeably wider. and that's where most of the difference comes in. If the 0's move you 70% (measured by my subjective standard) of the way into "race" position, the -7's are only maybe 10% more. but the wider stance makes turning the bike more of a shoulder action and not an action from elbows. The -7's are great! They have the full-on-street-sport-racer-track-monster-yadda-yad da-etc. feel. I commuted almost every day this summer with them, and there were a few days i missed being able to lean back, but only on those really crappy "stop for three minutes move for two" days. EZ - how simple are the adjustables to change? it would be nice to have one setting for canyon day, and a second for the traffic day. (Message edited by luckydevil on January 22, 2007) | ||

i received the Rizoma 29mm Conical bars mentioned above but i could tell before even mounting them up that i wasn't going to like them, too much pull-back at 80mm. turns out, i prefer around 54mm. i ended up swapping out the Azonics for a set of ProTaper Contour Taperwall fatbars. next season will determine if i like them or not but i'm already guessing i'll be pretty happy. similar specs to my Azonics but with a few mm more pull-back. (+2mm). not saying these are 'the best' bar for the S, but they're another option. here's a snapshot...  | ||

On the other hand................... The so called Clubman's or "Ace" bars are another alternative, that were developed back in the 60's in England. Here is a set of Tomasselli adjustable Clubman's bars on my bike. They are on custom risers, and that is the main problem with Clubman's bars on a Lightning. They need some kind of risers. The advantage is that you get the forward placement of the Firebolt, but the bars are higher, and thus more comfortable.  | ||

typeone, those are the 54mm in the pic? 984, those are the ProTaper Contour Taperwalls with the Carmichael bend in the pic above. specs in millimeters are 800W/77H/55P but i cut them down to 29.5"W or 1" off each end. for comparison, the Azonic A-3 CR Lo specs in mm are 796W/79H/53P. i also cut those down to 29.5"W | ||

Typeone - hope you like that Carmichael bend... I used the ProTaper SE in same bend for last 2 years and really liked it. Bought myself a similar bend in Magura X-line fatbar, but need the appropriate clamps. So what's your impression of the Rizoma fatbar clamps? Eager to hear! | ||

the Rizoma clamp is gorgeous and bolted up no sweat. very nice piece. i was a little worried because the Rizoma bars its made for (the Conicals) are supposedly 29mm in diameter where as most 'fatbars' are 28.575mm or 1.125". test fitting before chopping up the ProTapers revealed the fit was just fine. when i have the clamp bolted down tight, i can still see a small gap in the clamp so it seems i'm OK with the slightly smaller diameter bar. wasn't sure the .425 difference would be a big deal. seems like its clamping the bars just fine. | ||
