Are the Carbon Fiber body parts from http://www.americansportbike.com the same brand as those from http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk?

Another question. Does anybody sell the R fairing in carbon fiber? Not a full race fairing.

I have one if not the same, it appears to be.

It is a very low quality piece. It is very heavy, and only has a carbon veneer over
a THICK layer of shredded fiberglass structure underneath.

The ebay stuff is only good for bling factor, but it is not a true C-F piece.

If that's all you're looking for it may work for you, but it is way overpriced for that
IMHO. For a few dollars more you can get a quality part from a reputable dealer like
American Sport Bike, or Trojan-horse

I bought one from Carbon Depot off of eBay recently because 1)I'm going to paint parts of it 2) it has vents on the side which American Sport Bike doesnt carry and 3) far cheaper then the $500 from Europe which has a different carbon weave to it, by the way. However, it has a bad spot at one of the intakes, pin holing in the carbon and a run in the clearcoat. Contrary to another post, it is lightweight. I plan on returning it.

Light is very relative, real carbon is amazingly light, It has to be felt to be believed.
My point was that the ebay stuff is no where near that light. It was still lighter
than the stock cover, but not "carbon fiber light" if you know what I mean ;)

Ilmberger is about as good as it gets from what I hear, but I've personally seen some parts from American Sport Bike and they are indeed top notch.

I have purchased the Ilmberger rear hugger and the right side scoop from trojan. I was not disappointed in the quality one bit......Excellent quality and the fit was perfect.

That fairing and airbox cover are hot. I can easily see the used R I buy being more expensive than a brand new S!

Carbonfiber is the way to go.

Al, at American Sport Bike, told me that the European carbon weave pattern is different so mixing and matching might be a problem if you're looking for a consistent look.

I have a Right Side Scoop from American Sport Bike that I'm very impressed with. Super Light and strong. You get what you pay for.

I am interested in this as well. I saw the ads on ebay and sent two emails to the seller, but have not heard back yet. I like the way the scoops are higher and they look like the rain path won't hit the filter.

The seller emailed me and said he would replace the cover at his cost - shipping both ways. I shall see !! I wanted it for the look not so much the carbon fiber but if it's going to be made from carbon it might as well be made correctly

Ilmberger and our own carbon fibre uses a small plain weave carbon, whereas the American Sport Bike carbon is in twill weave, which is a larger pattern.
Ilmberger does have a large weave option but it is MUCH larger than the twill used by American Sport Bike and other manufacturers.

Carbon fibre prices have rocketed in the last 2 years, so any 'cheap' carbon that you see on ebay will likely be just that - cheap and nasty.

What Matt said. American Sport Bike uses the same twill weave that Buell has used for all their CF since they switched from plain weave after a few S1 parts.

The raw strands that form the CF cloth are only made by a few companies, and production is capacity limited at this time. Aerospace demand, coupled with the results of a supply price fixing lawsuit a few years back, have driven prices through the roof. I've absorbed a few price increases, the condition is supposed to improve but we aren't seeing it yet.

The import sports car guys wanting carbon fiber hoods isn't helping the prices either
Of course they want to reduce the mass over the drive axle;)

At least the ridiculously large wings on the tail have gone out of fashion for the most part.

Apparently China is buying up massive amounts of carbon fibre cloth, titanium and aluminium, which is also adding to the worldwide shortages.

Perhaps we'll see a stunning Chinese sportsbike this year, or maybe a new missile instead

China is sucking up raw materials at an amazing rate. It is affecting the automotive market and driving up the price of steel, thats why the auto companies lobbied to have some of the tariffs on imported steel lifted, so they could be competitive.

Hey Trojan, I am voting for misslie!

China is currently not the problem for these commodities.........in particular for Carbon fibre and ALU...........Airbus is to blame

Aluminum 7075 2 weeks wait now for deliveries in Germany

Carbon 245 fabric very tricky to get in quantities............
