I think he is questioning why anyone would modify their motorcycle for something that has Zero Performace Value. If that ws all anybody ever cared about there would be no custom paint, chrome or colored wheels, undertails, windscreens and a million other things people buy that do not improve the performace of the bike. What does it matter. If someone likes the way a 240 looks who is anyone else to tell them not to put it on there? I'm sure you have some of these zero performance mods on your bike Ducxl. I know I do.

Also I don't understand why so many people get so upset when we change Erik's original design to something we like alittle bit more. It is a freakin motorcycle, do what you want to it.

I think these 240 - 330 tire bikes look bad ass, who cares if they don't handle, they look way better then any stock bike out there. Not everyone is out to get a bunch of tickets in the twisties or has twisties to run. Some people could careless about hauling ass through the twisties, as long as it has wheels I think it is cool, yes there are cool 4 wheeled rides.

It's merely a tool for getting us through the twisties as efficiently as possible.

Here's the biggest mod on my X1,i got it friday night.

Here's my X1 right now getting swingarm bearings,all isolators,box gaskets,starter/primary gaskets,exhaust mount,blah,blah,winter maintainance.Glad my '05 12r only needs only fluids and maybe.....just maybe some Pirellis'.

All i questioned was,the wisdom investing in a modification which, doesn't add any functional value. My Buells' are basically bone stock(but well maintained)because they work well as intended.Engine mods. lead to reliability issues quick. So,my motto is,i'll just buy the power/performance already ENGINEERED as a complete package. And i enthusiastically endorse Buells' in that regard.

Duc don't feel that I tried to label... I didn't want to do that trust me. I'll or anyone will look how someone worded there post and see it differently then how it was originally intended..... sorry. But go back and reread your post and maybe you could possibly see how I took it out of context.

Erik actually likes to see what we do with the bikes that bear his name.

He is very observant and is not afraid of asking why you've made a change to this or that.

Motorcycle customization is very personal and any change made finds it's true value in
the eyes of the person that made the change.

Bottom line?

Erik finds at least some inspiration for future models and modification by watching what
we as owners do with, and to the bikes. So people need to relax and be less judgmental
about what other people do with their own motorcycle. : )

Ducxl what you think is a waste of money spent is anothers treasure, otherwise the aftermarket industry wouldn't be around.

Just remember that performance isn't everything to everyone or we would all be driving race cars. That is the great thing about our country we are aloud to do what we want when we want as long as it is legal.

I wouldn't label you as a Buell hater but someone that hates it when people modify the stock design or vision that Erik put into these machines. Remember, he cannot meet everyones wants or needs with just one design so that is why we modify.

Hello everybody. I'd also like to say thanks to Ronlv for all the info on converting to a 240.

I'm converting to a chain shortly. I know a 200mm tire will fit on the stock Buell rim.

Here's the question:
Will a Metzler 210mm tire fit on the stock XB rim. I've got an 04 Firebolt. Thanks in advance for any info.

Thanks for the info Hogs. I've read where others have done it without problems.

I like the wide tire look but 240 is the limit. Anything beyond that is too over the top. I plan on getting the stock rear rim modified or buy a rim to fit a 240 eventually.

Jonah, I'm sure I missed the post somewhere so I apologize. Where did you get this wheel and how much was it? Can you get it in bare metal or ready for powdercoating?

Thanks

Hogs,
I don't remember where I saw the info on the 200 but I'll see if I can find it again.

After I spoke with Ron, I found a machine shop close to my home that "may" be willing to widen a stock rim to 8.5". They normally widen car rims and said they'd have to see my rim first. As far as everything else needed to do a 240 conversion, I'll probably get all the parts from Ron since he has already gone through all the headaches and has basically come up with a "kit" for the 240.

I'll let you know what happens.

mhfirebolt.
The wheel comes from a guy in Wales, UK called Steve Taylor. he builds them to order and can supply everything you need to fit. ie the spacers for the front peg hanger and the offset front pulley (which he buys in from germany) There is no modifications to the swingarm or frame so he will ship it to you as a kit (Wheel, spacer. front pulley etc and you can fit it in an hour or so. His email is steve@taylormade-wheels.co.uk drop him a line, hes a very friendly chap and will give you the lowdown. tell him i reffered you and you'll get a good deal.

On the subject of Critisism. Feedback is great as long as its not rude or spiteful .I personally relish comments...Good or Bad. At least its causing a reaction.. eh The comments on this forum are tame compared to the hammering i get on the uk forum for having such a big back wheel.

Thanks for the info Jonah.

I like the look of the 240 tire/wheel. It's big but not too big. The 300 is way too big for me. I do some corner carving but not enough where the 240 will upset me.

I like the chain because of the strength and reliability. I run a straight pipe because of the sound. It sounds absolutely nasty and I love it.

Last of all, I never and I mean never get challenged by any ricers on the street.

USA Baby!!
