Ok, here's what I came up with on my first attempt at the post-toast reconstruction.

I was looking at my sears craftsman hi-intensity worklamp as it was sitting on its tripod.

Within minutes, I had it mounted up to the XB9R:

I ran the power cord to the rear of the bike, where I plugged it into a DC-to-AC power inverter. The inverter fit nicely under the passengers seat, and I wired it with gauge 10 cable to the battery which resides under my seat. I rolled the bike outside and fired it up:

It lit up my entire front yard and the whole side of my neighbors house, so I quickly tipped the lamp downward so as not to piss off my neighbors:

I took this picture from my neighbors yard, I think it will be horrific for oncoming traffic:

What do you guys think? Will it attract problems from law enforcement officers?

Do you think that the AC inverter will over tax my charging system? It reads 13.7 V when running with the light on, I measured it with a multimeter.

And you might want to do something about the palsy. It makes all your pictures come out blurry. ;)

You knock me out, Fritz!

I think you are on the right track in the sense that the stock Firebolt lights suck. The Lightning ones aren't much better either.

However, I think your solution might benefit from further refinement if you plan on staying out of jail.

Maybe two shop lights mounted vertically, one for high, one for low beams? I saw on nice skull on eBay with projectors in both eyes and the mouth: tri beam. Nasty.

Hope to see you at MBIV this year.

Anyone got a set of de-chromed XBR headlight assemblies they would like to donate or sell real cheap?

Fritz,
How about this one?

sss

It's a little different, and it has room for three lamps. you could hook one up to the unused European parking light socket, if you ever get a new wiring harness, know what I mean?

Of course you'd have to make some brackets, but it shouldn't be a lot harder to mount than the Craftsman, and it has the advantage of not needing an inverter: big weight savings right there, right?

Pretty impressive. But you're gonna hafta put a "spoon" in it to cut down on the oncoming glare.

Better make that a 2x4.

thats freakin brilliant! ;)

don't let hammer see it, you know he'll use it! ever ride in front of rich at night, the double high beams somehow manage to magically reflect in the rear view mirrors that during the day only show elbows, works wonders with your night vision.

Ha! That skull is awesome!

They should make the bulb in the mouth an amber one!

Can you imagine that taking the place of the whole front assembly on a lightning?!?!

mmmm my like the the craftsman light option, screw the dot and their idea of what lights out to be. I was thinking maybe a pair of aircraft landing lights for auxilary lighting off of a body cage. like to see more daylight profiles of that set up to see how it looks on the bike as a styling stance. Great work, day 8 of 365 days of Duct tape.

Well, although the worklight idea was intended as a joke, It is not exactly a consequence of boredom.

There was a motivating incident:

"motivating incident" holy cr@p thats an understatement!
there may have been a bit of an oversight in the development of the lighting system for the xbr(following the theme here). wonder what the candle power of fritz's fire was, bet it was higher than the oem headlight. so in a way it was custom, ya thats it!
