I went Fenderless last year and my rear shock is paying the price. I've put my rear fender back on but cut the belt guard off to keep a more open look in the rear.
I'm patiently waiting for a bobbed, guardless carbon fiber model for the '06 and up bikes. |

A great idea that looks good! I recently took off the rear fender on my '06 Long, but haven't ridden much over winter. A good heads up on the shock problem, something I never gave a thought to. Might end up doing something similar to yours. |

Here's a shot of mine with the rear fender and both belt guards removed. I'm thinking about putting the fender back on too. I'll probably leave the belt guards off for now though. I think it looks better and don't have much road debris on the roads I frequent. However I got my backpack soaked in the rain the other day from the rooster tail I must have been throwing.

Took my belt guards/hugger off a week after I got it new, it now has about 22,000 miles on it with NO PROBLEMS with the belt or anything really! It does get a little dirty under the seat, tho...
