Lastnight my dad and I finished installing my new Crossroads bars. When we were routing the clutch cable, the little black plastic bushing that surrounds the metal stud at the end of the cable broke into two pieces. We hooked it back up to the lever without the bushing and it works without problems. Do you guys think that this will be ok? I don't want to have to install a new clutch cable if I don't have to. I was planning on ordering some CRG Shorty levers, but now I'm a little hesitant to tear up a new clutch lever without that bushing. What do you guys think? Am I worried about nothing?

I don't know how much that plastic piece helps with the life of the cable end (i.e. preventing it from breaking off). However I think it would "wear faster" without it since there is metal on metal rubbing instead of plastic on metal. When I first starting riding street bikes they didn't have that part on it and as long as you kept it lubed up it should be fine for a little while at least.

If you do get new levers (or not), one thing I do is check the points of the lever anywhere it might contact the cable for sharp edges. If found I sand paper them down with 1000 - 1500 grit sand paper, clean it off, and try to polish the area with Mothers afterwards to prevent cable cutting. I didn't have to do this with the CRGs since they looked pretty good out of the box.
