Was wondering if anyone is having an issue with the front muffler clamp on your XB. It seems that mine lasts about a month and a half, then breaks at the point where it bends just above the muffler.
After 3 @ 17$ a clamp it's a bit expensive.... I have been buying $1.98 hose clamps from Home depot.. but they only last 2 to 3 weeks. I can't find anything wrong, both clamps in the rear are fine... and the header clamp in the front is ok as well.

I'm guessing here, but is it tight to the mount? Do you loosen the clamp to the header, then tighten the muffler clamp, then retighten the header clamp?

For it to break, and again I'm guessing, I'd think there would be movement.

How tight are you torquing them?

If you are talking about the band type clamp, make sure that you do not have the bolt lined up on a place that will stress or kink the clamp.

Are you lining up the bolt where it is on a stock setup?

Like Dave asked, the stock torque is very low according to the manual, easy to over-torque.

I do wheelie a lot, I have tried leaving if snug, tight , and very tight.. it breaks either way. There is no movement from the muffler, if I leave the clamp off the header pipe will not separate.... what bugs me is when the clamp breaks, the little piece that is bolted to bike that the clamp runs through rattles. I am debating just removing that piece and run it without the clamp. I have been driving it without the clamp for the last couple of weeks.

The front exhaust mount has bushings where it is bolted to the motor. Check that the bushings are not worn out causing excessive movement and allowing the strap to fatigue/break

RSH-
I decided to have a closer look ... so I took the pipe all the way off. It seems the goofball that owned the bike before me had removed the pipe for what ever reason...and must have lost half of the bushing. When he tightened the bolt up it squeezed the metal clamp guide out of round, so that the clamp bent when tightened.
I found some hollow stock in my garage, and made a twin to the other half. All is good now (fingers crossed).

Does anyone know the size of the clamps? I'd like to order spare or 2 from Deepblueyachtsupply. Teeps, since you posted a link to deepblue, do you know the one to order?
Thanks;

rear clamp pn is 70STBC750

These clamps are not exactly the same as the stock; but they do work.
Note:
The front clam is a different size than the rear. I didn't get the smaller clamp.

Hey Cactus Dave, I wouldn't run the bike with out the front clamp on it. I know of at least one rider here on the badweb that had a front clamp failure and did a pole vault over the bars and messed up the bike too. I know he had a dif exhaust on then stock. I wouldn't take the chance.
