There is a sidestand recall on certain bikes.
I don't know the years affected though, other than the '03 XB9R.

There have as yet been no recalls for the 2004 XB12R.

When your stand "broke", did it happen because the pivot bolt backed out and sheared off at the threads like mine did? I have trouble picturing such a robust piece of steel as the stand itself breaking.

The bolts are around 12 or 13 dollars, gotta order them from the parts counter. Or you can call Al, he can get them for you.

I replaced mine and keep a spare under my seat, just in case. I also used red loc-tite on the threads. Been two years now, no problems.

Pwnzor is correct in that there have been no recalls, in fact no complaints, for the 2004 XB12R.

Recalls, be mindful, are associated with certain bikes within a year, not GENERALLY, the entire year.

As an example the subsequent XB12R sidestand recall campaign, in 2005, applied to only 179 of the units manufactured.

You may call you local Buell dealer and ask that they do a search for any outstanding recalls on H-Dnet.

Mine had loosened up and I can see if the bolt has backed out and the bike is parked leaning on the sidestand the bolt may snap, allowing the bike to fall. This doesn't necessarily mean the sidestand is bad, but I would definitely check the bolt to make sure it's tight and use some red loctite on it to make sure. I wouldn't have checked normally except the issue was brought up here about it.

Mine was part of the recall (05 XB12R) got the letter and all, anyway, went to local Buell Stealership (Chandler HD Buell) ordered the sidestand because they had none and 6 months later still have not got the call that its in. Whats up with that??? (Sorry, didn't mean to HI Jack the thread...)

Mine fell off while riding down the highway, 0412R....Fixed that day, my dealer pulled one off a stock bike and put on my bike under warranty.

Stone Mountain HD/BuellRocks!

The bolt broke off by the way, not the stand itself.

The bike was in for service. I told them it was a recall bike. The gentleman said he would order it and call when it came in. I called a few times the first 2 months asking if it had come in yet, then gave up. (I'd have to check my records but I believe it was in May...)I'm generally NOT one to make a scene so I dropped it. I dont know what happened after that to be honest.

Yeah so just order an extra bolt "just in case", and make sure the one that's already in there is tight and use some red threadlocker.

I think pretty much every thread I've seen on the subject has been the result of the bolt getting loose, and the weight of the bike leaning on it makes the bolt fail, particularly when warming up the bike on the sidestand.

You now have to buy a replacement kit. If I remember correctly, it's about $48.00.

kinda new here, apparently dave is the man. everybody's response is talk to dave. my local hd/buell dealer is not very knowledgeable. i don't really need them any way. all i'm really looking are the parts. most jobs i can get done, and the people here seem to know just about everything,

are all parts available through you ?

Thanks

Dave is a great resource for your stock replacement parts such as nuts and bolts all the way up to whole motorcycles : )

For your aftermarket needs, my personal recommendation is Al at American Sport Bike, although the sponsors here are all pretty much the top shelf guys.

Daves, I've got an '04 XB12S. I'd like to order the upgrade, How do I go about doing that.
And, If this is an obvious known flaw, as it appears to be, how come it isn't covered under Warrantee ?
My bike is still under Warrantee .
Thanks.

To order from me just give me a call
866-757-1651
ask for Dave in the sales dept.
I'll be here thru Sat and not back until Thursday, next week.

If the stand breaks I would think it would be covered under warranty but they won't replace until it breaks.

Thanks Dave! I'll be in touch.
I'm not so concerned about the stand itself as much as everything else that will get trashed if & when it goes down, which I KNOW Buell won't cover!!!

A recall is something I'd suggest you not just "give up" on.

Having been involved in Buell customer service issues for the better part of two decades, I'd suggest a polite call to Chandler.

With very few exceptions each and every instance in which I have seen something like this it's inevitably the result of poor or garbled communication.

Based on two things. . . good reports I've read of Chandler and the fact that I know the parts are readily available, I'm going to do something silly . . . pick up the phone and politely ask.

My bet is it'll be an easy fix.

Shane:

Great news!

I just had a most pleasant conversation with Matt, the General Manager. I got a sneaking suspicion how they got some of their service and sales awards. . . the guy is awesome.

Just as I suspected they have not, assuming your profile has your real name, any record of this. Somewhere there is a disconnect between names, VIN and part.

Give Matt a call at the dealership and if your bike needs the recall part he'll have it taken care of darn near instantly.

Cool!
