has anyone ever run a 120/60/17 on the front of their xb? I have a set of mich. race tires that I picked up cheap & the front is a 120/60/17, any input appreciated | ||

You will need to drop the forks 3-5mm in the triples to accommodate for the height difference between the 60 series profile and the 70 series that is stock. Also will might notice that the bike turns in slower. | ||

Nasty, Even more actually, lots more. Switching from a 70 to a 60 series 120mm front tire will cause the front of the bike to drop by 12mm (~0.5"). This from the fact that the series number is the ratio of tire depth to width (120mm in this case). To find the difference in the depths of two tires we can use some simple math as follows: 10% * 120mm = 12mm (0.5") MXer. That is a SERIOUSLY SIGNIFICANT change to the geometry of your motorcycle and not in a good (more stable) direction. The way to compensate would be to drop your forks as suggested above, but by around 1/2" (12mm). Probably best to use the proper size tire since besides effects on geometry, the bike's suspension is also configured to work with a 70 series tire. The tires are a major part of the suspension system on a sport bike. Mounting up a 60 series front tire could adversely affect the handling and ride of your motorcycle. | ||

I may be wrong, but the height of the bike would not drop 12MM,instead it would drop 6MM [1/2the diameter] | ||

Dano, The 60/70 as stated above is the ratio of expressed as a percentage of the tire profile to its width. You get the change in profile ALL the way round, not just across the diameter. |
