Skyguy - It sounds like you are happy. I'm glad to see you bubbling about the MZ660. I find it a hoot to take out my wife's little 250 Ninja. It's all about holding as much corner speed as possible since there is little acceleration on exit (especially with my 210 lbs aboard).

AEholton, Yep pretty darn happy. I tried to learn to play the guitar in High School and after nearly a full year I calmly placed my Applause in front of my Pantera and ran it over.

It was not about losing money it was about losing the frustration.

Besides I broke dead even on the Buell and due to an idiot tipping it managed to get what I paid for it out of his insurance company without a salvage title.

Almost three years of ownership and all it cost was tires and gas. I even ended up with another odd, fun little toy, the Mz660 Traveler.

Now that I am about to be flying balloons full time I needed to put the canyon bike away for awhile. Getting hurt is a pretty bad option right now. The bags are going to be so needed for this winter of big commuter miles.

Thanks Steve, Enjoy the beast!

My primary fluid is in fact always milky. I always wondered where the water was coming from.

Seal up your clutch cable adjuster.

Wait a second skyguy, you had a pantera in high school?

I was a pedestrian in high school.

Back then the coolest car in the high school parking lot was the fastest one,
not the one with the loudest stereo ($300 car with $5000 stereo is not uncommon
these days)

I was a lucky kid and my grandmother saved all her pennies and gave me $4,000 when I was 15. I noticed that the "in" crowd kids were starting to show up in Levi's. I decided to buy a box and resll them. Then I bought a box then a crate then a truckload.

I bought the Pantera in a divorce sale back before they were illegal. I paid 3,500 for a mint car, cash after a quick discussion with the soon to lose everything hubby.

It was a good day and It is the car I never should never have sold.

Good times.

Sky: Where did you grow up, the Soviet Union? Couldn't people just buy Levis at the store?

If you use aftermarket bulbs and jumper the lowbeam wire to constant hot so both lights are on for bright setting, they're not too bad. Haven't had any melting problems either. Wish they were even brighter, but these two mods made it possible to ride at dark if I have to.

If you run too hot of a bulb in any plastic light fixture, you'll melt them, that's simple enough.

Of course, when a stealership tells you "use these bulbs" you'll tend to believe them, because light bulbs are pretty simple things. Unless of course, the guy advising you is a dim bulb himself.

The stock XB12R lights are sucky. I'm using the Sylvania Silverstar H3's and they are pretty keen. $20 each and they are a big improvement.

I'm thinking that technology will save us from ourselves. Why doesn't someone invent an impervious metal reflector that just inserts in the stock housing? For $20 or less? I guess that's the clincher.

I paid $30 to get my original stock housing (that dismally lost it's shiny reflector finish) chromed, but the going rate is more like $40. But not everyone is as foolish (adventurous?) as I am on something like this. Note: I haven't installed it yet as my stock replacement headlight is still working OK.

I was thinking about that idea too Daryll. Can you chrome plastic?? I'm about to convert the front end of my S to an R and wanted to find a good solution for the headlights before I do the conversion.

I am considering a set of these, as they just happen to be 4" and I bet they wont melt.

I've ridden at night just a few times on my Ss, and I never noticed anything bad about the headlight brightness, aside from the fact that there was little difference between hi and lo beam. Running 50 mph on a back road, I could see just fine.(?)

Why not use the Ducati 1098 headlights since they are a direct copy of the XB_R's?

The headlights in my 749S were the same exact size as the XBR lights, and about 10 times brighter. The housings were different, but I often thought of cutting them up for my Buell since the Duc sat in the garage gathering dust anyway.

My shiny coating pretty much all flaked off too, and I managed to find a new stock low beam housing on ebay for $13 so I got it and removed the baffle. Now I have two high beams, and the new one is much brighter than the old one because of it. One day I'll replace the high beam as well. They're really manufactured at a pretty low quality standard if you ask me. What was left of the shiny coating on my old housing wiped off with the barest touch.
