Hi all,

I'm planning on buying a XB12Scg as my first road bike. I've located two new old stock Scg bikes at a local dealer. I stopped by to take a look. The bike fits as perfect as a sport bike can given my 5'4" height and 27" inseam. The facts aside, I wanted to know if there are any notable differences between a 2005, 2006, or 2007 XB12Scg? Also, any insight on what I might expect to pay for a 2005 model that is still sitting on the showroom floor? Finally, should I have any apprehensions to buying a new bike that's been sitting on a dealer's floor plan for two years? The bike I'm looking at is stamped as a 2005 model assembled in Dec. 2004. What does a dealer do maintain these bikes while they just sit there for two years? What should they do before delivering such a bike to a new owner?

The transmission was changed in 2006. I've not sampled a 2005 version for comparison, but my '06 shifts well.

years ago, when I worked for a Honda dealership, I bought several "leftovers" without any issues. I might ask for an oil change, but I'd not guess that you would have any issues.

I'd get it if its a good deal for you. Like Tomr said, maybe change the oil and clean off all the finger prints from the years of sitting on the show room floor. You'll be good to go.

Buy some plexus to polish the finger prints off the bike ;)

Like they said the 06 model is the only SCG with any real changes.

You say for your first road bike, have you been riding dirt for a while?

Please budget for at least a good full face helmet, jacket and gloves.
Then wear 'em : )

We like to keep our fellow Buell riders around for a while : )

Use a gentle touch on the throttle of the XB12. It will have more torque than any
off road machine. Keep a cool head and you should be fine.

The dealer doesn't do much to maintain the bikes on the floor except to clean them.

I'd ask for an oil change, a fresh battery, and make sure they set your suspension up for your weight (this is very important) I would also try to get them to swap the dunlops for pirellis if
they will do it. It makes a huge difference in how the bike handles.

They should also do a "walk through" with you and show you where everything is on the bike, and
how to adjust it. This is sometimes not done, and once again, be sure they set the suspension
up for your weight. I can't stress this enough!

Welcome Big Guy (I'm 5'3"). I ride a XB9SL and I couldn't be more pleased with my bike. After 11,000 miles it is completely trouble free. At the first oil change I started with Amsoil 20W50 Vee Twin oil in both the primary and engine and it shifts fine and doesn't use oil.

I test rode a 2005 XB12Scg and noticed the bike feels very similar, but that speedo needle winds up faster. I like the low end grunt of the XB12Scg.

It's great to be able to buy an UNmodified bike off the showroom floor that fits "US".

I have found no other Sport bike that I can balance. It's embarrrassing to ask the salesperson to help hold up the bike while you try to straddle it.
