So here is my little rant for the day........ So here in New England country it gorgeous out so I decide to take the bike into work. When I left my house this morning ~7:30 it was 55 degrees out!!! Holy crapola I said, I'll go for a nice ride during my lunch hour. Then I thought Hell I'll take 2 hours for a ride since my boss is in California this week and no one will notice I am gone. My lunch is from 12 to 1 so I'll leave a little early and come back a little late. it is so nice out. So here it is....... I get to work and go to park the bike........... my left foot is going to put the kickstand down and I keep on reaching for it........... my foot is going like I'm trying to kickstart a 48 panhead............. I look down............. F*CK OFF!!!!!!! The damn kickstand is a GONER!!!!! The base is still there but no kickstand. Now I'm sitting there with NOWHERE to park my bike and I'm late for work as it is. I go over to the shipping area and lean the bike up against a huge crate and strapped it down so it wouldn't fall over but there goes my lunchtime ride as I wanted to stop and actually eat something. The kicker is my ride to work is 80% highway and I was flying down the highway this morning. Did I mention I was late for work????? I hope that it didn't take someone's tire, windshield or radiator out this morning........... I called my local dealer and since it is still under warranty the said just bring it down and we'll fix it. Which is good but why did it have to happen today!!!! The best weather day I will probably see until next spring  Oh here's what I saw this morning:   | ||

Now instead of getting out of work and going riding I have to go to my dealership and sit there until they fix it.  And least I don't have to pay for anything. | ||

I would rather it happen while parked, lemme tell what could happen if you were moving. Mine fell off going down the hwy, got a new one under warranty and Buell called for the parts?! The service manager had to explain there were no parts to give, unless they wanted to come search a 20 mile stretch of hwy. | ||

I was riding behind one of my friends when a nice chunk of his chrome came of and hit my helmet just above the visor. Needless to say.....a change of clothing was almost needed......  | ||

LOCTITE!  dude that's funny but I never took the kickstand apart. can't blame that one on me for not loctiting. good thing was when I got to the dealership they were waiting for me to show up. they had the kickstand right there that they said they took off another bike. was in and out in about a half hour. no more problems.......... back to your regularly scheduled program.  | ||

While Loctite can prevent many problems, this is not one of them. The dealership I work for sells about 30-40 Buells per year and in the last 12 months I'd say we've had 5-6 bikes back for this exact problem. The threaded part of the pin that holds the kickstand to the mounting bracket shears clean off. Then its only a matter of time before the kickstand vanishes. I can't remember right now if Buell addressed the issue yet and replaced the part with a redesigned one yet or not. I think they did, but I'll have to check when I get to work tomorrow. Anyway, Damnut is not alone on this one. | ||

Isnt this like Buells 4 or 5 kick stand now? This is going back also to the tube bikes too. I have the 2003 kick stand and it is still working great. I am not sure why they changed it.. I think the newer/ HD style is not working that well on the Buells. | ||

Do I have to worry about kickstand issues on my 07 XB12Scg? If so, what can I do to prevent it from falling off. If mine falls off a faulty stand, I will be pissed and Buell should have to fix the bike if this is a mass problem. There should also be a recall if this is the case. It is NOT difficult at all to engineer a strong kickstand... | ||

What I noticed was my bike was leaning a little more than normal the day it happened. I stopped at the corner store to get me a Sobe No Fear, I don't like coffee. I checked the kickstand to see if it the bolts were loose but they weren't. I didn't notice anything strange but like I said I just checked real quick to see if the bolts that hold the kickstand to the bike were loose. Remember I was late for work. | ||

When I get on my Uly, I step on the foot peg, then throw my foot over the saddle, then put the kickstand up... I'm hope this doesn't come back and bite me. I had the recall work done. I hope that helps. | ||

I had the pivot bolt break about 2 weeks ago as I was standing next to it! I heard a little "ping", and suddenly my bike is tipping over onto me! My local Stealership told me that the bolt was no longer available, and that the "fix-it kit" was backordered throughout the US for like 6 weeks (at a cost of $50). He supposedly checked their parts computer system, and told me that, "No dealer in the US has bolt or kit." This is from "The oldest H-D/Buell Dealer in Colorado" (I'm not mentioning any names!), who had ONE Buell on the sales floor! I don't mean to rant, though. I was just frustrated because I had to cancel a breakfast ride for a stupid special bolt! I've never had the stand apart either! I have since fabbed my OWN pivot bolt assembly out of AVAILABLE parts... | ||

07xb12scg, Just a word of caution about a bike on a side stand. I was just going to ride over town but forgot to put the garage door down. So down goes the side stand on level ground. I put the garage door down and I noticed my Blast isn't upright - it decided to lay down and take a nap. No damage just a reposition of the mirror. Now if I let my XB9SL warm up the front tire is against something that it won't roll over. | ||

"I had my '06 fixed. To tell if yours is OK or not, look at the attachment pivot for the kickstand. If the bottom of the pivot pin where it attaches to the bracket on the bike has a snap-ring or C-clip on it, you have the updated parts and will have no problems. If there is a 5/8"-16 UNC lock nut on it, you have the old recalled piece. That was the difference between the old and new." Found this on another site. My bike has the NON-updated part on it (2005). Anyone know if this upgrade pin can be ordered or is it a whole new stand? | ||

On my 06 Ss the sidestand bolt came loose just under 1k mi. The indication was that the sidestand got hung up while putting it down. Basically, the bracket the spring is attached to will hit the hex bolt portion, and not just the pin portion like normal. Luckily, it was still in by a couple of threads. When I pulled it off to look at it, I didn’t see Locktight traces. It might be good preventative maintenance to re-install that bolt with a good amount of Locktight. |
