So I am finally done with the mods. Here's what I did:
1)Cut the cheese grater off
2)Moved number plate and signals with custom bracket
3)Painted plastic, side rails and tail flat black
4)Removed all stickers and decals
5)Shortened front turn signals
6)Removed belt guard

So what do you think?

"So what do you think? "

I like it.

Match your riding gear to suit and it'll be quite a presentation.

Any opinions on the Craft helmets? I like the RX6 in flat black. There aren't any dealers close to me so I can't try one on to see what size I need.

Very nice! I'd pop off the fork reflectors. Doesn't seem like much but just finishes the look. Rip it up.

P.S. They just pry off. The adhesive putty just pulls off. 30 second job and a little rub with some Goof Off, and presto.

I have thought about removing the reflectors but just haven't done it. Without them I would be nearly impossible to see from the side at night which could be very, very bad.

I don't know, I would leave them on if it were me... They don't detract from the look all that much...

In MA reflectors are one of the first things inspectors look for when you get your yearly safety check.

Don't you have one of those bright orange safety vests with the reflective X on the front and back? That's what I wear...sheesh.

I understand the safety point. I live where the majority of the 'new population' comes from a place where very few drive so all of them are pretty much new first generation drivers. They didn't grow up with the road sense we were taught. So my commute is like going through a dingbat gauntlet. I however use the stealth effect of my bike to scare some awareness into them.

You could ditch the reflectors and replace them with Black reflective tape. A piece here or there on top of black surfaces would be invisible in light, but fully reflective at night.

You can have your cake and eat it too.

I'm not into the flat black look, but the mods you've made are nice. The black frame pucks stick out like a sore thumb because your frame isn't black. On a black bike like that, a polished frame would look bad. I know that shiny aluminum doesn't go with the flat black image, though.

To each their own! I like the black frame pucks but ultimately I would like to powder coat the frame and wheels. I have a friend with a full powder coating setup but it is a major pain in the arse to do the frame. The swingarm and wheels wouldn't be to hard but then the frame would stick out like a sore thumb so it's kindof all or nothing.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Hey, if you wanted to hide the pucks you could get the carbon fiber puck covers and paint them silver. Personally I like the bare pucks.

I've got some LED side marker lights from Custom Dynamics that I'm going to mount to the side of my fork reflectors.. seems like a good spot for them. Otherwise I'd peel 'em off and get some smaller, rounder ones. I've never understood why everything on the Lightning is rounded and the reflectors are square?

The reflectors are horrible on the Lightnings. Stock reflectors are horrible on any bike or car. Please, post pics of your marker lights when you're done. I bet it will look cool. Will it be legal, though? I know the laws here in PA are so funny when it comes to things like that.

Square reflectors are more effective at reflecting light and being seen.

A curved surface would only offer the reflective segment of the curve rather than the total surface area.

They could have provided a long thin reflector. I prefer the tape as it can be cut and molded to any shape you want, and is nearly invisible in daylight.

That's a great idea Ft_bstrd!

I didn't even think about that. I have reflective pinstripe on my 83 Mustang that does exactly that. It just looks blue until the light hits it.

Yeah, when I said rounded reflectors, I meant circular, or oblong, or anything but a rectangle. Maybe more like the ones on the VRod.

Actually, I might order THOSE and replace my stock ones... hmm....
