Hey, could anyone recommend a good back protector? Im a pretty skinny guy, so fitting my skinny ass and not being loose is a consideration. Also, comfort for sport riding, not track use. Thanks | ||

Any back protector is better than no back protector at all. Check out Icon, Alpine Stars, Joe Rocket just to name a few. | ||

I would highly recommend Knox. I've got the Gilet Air and Cross-Sport shorts. CE Level II protection from knees to neck. Check them out. Very comfortable to wear and max protection...what more can you ask for besides wings on your Buell? | ||

Lots of information here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/229094.html Make sure you get the full CE spec/certification when you look around; the back protector certification is EN1621-2, which then is further divided into level 1 and level 2. Make sure you don't confuse the two. I myself am partial to the T-Pro protector as it provides multi-hit protection as opposed to protectors using honeycomb "crumble" material for shock absorption. I always blast trough traffic with my back protector. Full leather gear with build in CE protector + an extra IXSpro-back V.  you can brake an finger,an arm ore a leg, but your backbone.....  | ||

My Teknic jacket has one of the 7 plates already incorporated. Nice for the extra protection & convenience but the comfort factor on long trips is a little hard to take with the velcro belt properly done up. | ||

I wanted one of the hard plate back protectors (Alpinestars), but for the life of me I couldn't get it to fit right under my jackets. I finally sent it back. Made me feel like Quasimodo and severely limited my movement. I don't see how any of them fit right unless your jacket is oversized... they all look fairly thick when you add up the plates and the padding. I've got the Joe Rocket version of the T-Pro, which is better than nothing (and fits inside the jacket back pocket), but certainly doesn't feel as protective as hard plates would. ~SM | ||

Dianese makes a jacket size hard back protector. It is meant to fit in the pouch of a jacket, so it doesn't have any straps and may or may not fit in other brand jackets. I think that it is the Wave back protector. | ||

The Dainese back protector to which your refer is the Wave G2. I have one for my Bora jacket but it's not very good. The pocket in which it fits is, for practical reasons, quite small and the G2 itself is smaller still and sits well above the lower vertebrae. Although the G2 is probably better than nothing, I'd recommend one of Dainese's full back protectors e.g. the Bap or Wave T1/T2. These protectors are extremely comfortable for all-day use, have a full harness and are very thin and light, but tough with it. Many of Dainese's jackets and suits don't fit properly unless worn with a back protector. |
