#1 A sales person said helmets are only good for five year and the foam starts breaking down. My helmet is about ten years old. What do you think?

#2 I’m considering XB12R bars on my XB12Scg. What years, if any, of the XB12R used the 54mm forks of the Scg? I would need the upper Triple Tree from one of those years.

#3 I’m considering the Heated Grip Kit from American sport bike. Can anyone give any feedback on this product? What would be a good grip to use? I have small hands and really would not like to go bigger than the traction grips I have now.

#1 The foam PADDING does get beat after a while, but the helmet itself is fine. See if you can get new pads.

#2 54mm forks? As far as I know, the forks up to 2004 are 41mm, and 2005-current are 43mm.

#3 The best person to give you feedback about products at American Sport Bike is Al himself. He believes in everything he sells, and is very forthright with information. He's an honest business man.

This has been a public service announcement.

Yes, My Scg has 41mm forks. So an XB12R up to 2004 would have had 41mm forks as well. Thanks. I'm just checking it out.

The salesman was correct about the padding breaking down.
Also to a lesser extent the foam can pack dow too after the padding dies.

A 10 year old lid should probably be retired if you ride a lot, and especially if
you hang it on hard objects like the mirrors when you get off the bike.
That is very hard on the foam.

The 03 firebolts will have the upper triple clamp you are looking for.

Al at American Sport Bike is a straight up guy. Call him and talk to him about what your intended use
is and He'll tell you the truth about if the product you are considering will do it.
Even if it costs him the sale. Al has earned the trust of a lot of badwebbers that way.

54mm tripple = 41mm forks - 03-04 9R & 12R. 03-04 9S, 9SL & 12S. 05-07 12Scg
56mm tripple = 43mm forks - 05-07 9R, 12R, 9SX, 12S, 12Ss.

On Edit: Arn't the top tripples all the same? I thought it was the "lower" tripple that was of different size.
Where's Al or Daves or Trojan. They'd have the answer to that.

Yeah, one of you expert types please do reply. I'm not happy with the crossroads bars on my Scg and want to go R. What do I need? Tripple tree off an 03 or 04 R and clipons?

I'd also like to put the R windscreen/lights on too. What do I need?

Yeah, I saw that a few months back. Looks like it would be easier to do the full conversion like I'm interested in doing. I assume it would eliminate the need for all the custom fabricating to do what he did.

I'd love it if someone could offer a parts list of what I need to acquire to do the full front end R conversion on my 05 XB12Scg.

Metalstorm, you are correct. Only the lower tree diameter changed. The 43mm forks will still use 54mm clipons (talking about real clipons, not the tree mounted bars) as well.

The top triples are the same as has been stated.

For heated grips I would put in the Polly Heaters and just use your stock grips. 26.95, I have them in stock.

Have you looked into the Crossroads bars for the S models? I put them on my wife's bike and I really like them.
Here they are

List is 249.95
I sell them for 224.95
I have them in stock

PS,
you need a new helmet too.
It isn't just the pads that wear out. It is the styrofoam, crush liner that breaks down due to age, sweat, heat etc.
You'll be amazed at how much better a new helmet will fit and feel.
Plus it will offer better protection if things go wrong!

I have the Crossroads bars for the S, shown above. They are a huge improvement but I'm thinking these would be better, see link.

For an S type bar and clamp. This offering in black is gorgeous. I have pictures of their parts on an S, but can't seem to get them to upload.

If you're set on going to clip ons, then the XBRR billet upper triple, aluminum steering stem nut, and CFM clip ons are available through the Buell Racing hot line.
