Hi All, First, a big thanks to everyone on this board. After following all of your 9 vs 12 debates I finally picked up an 07 City X last month. I just finished breaking it in and have to say I love this bike. I new I would after having rented an 05 City X for a day from a local dealer this summer. My only concern so far is the mileage. Four tank fulls so far have yielded a relatively disappointing 32.9, 44.5, 43.7 and 42.6 MPG. I'm willing to ignore the first one since the Dealers idea of a topped off tank is way different from mine. Can I expect my mileage to increase as the engine breaks in further. The daily temperature was between 50 - 60 F during my rides. Might it be higher when I start riding in warmer weather? The summer rental returned 48.3 and 45.8 MPG and I definitely wasn't easy on the throttle. I was expecting a little better during the sedate break in period. Any ideas or am I just overreacting? Yeah, it will definitely get better. I was disappointed with the gas mileage of my xb12Ss at first but now it is great! Congrats on the new bike! | ||

My 2004 XB12R started off getting about 45mpg for the first 5000 miles, then it crept up on 50mpg for a while... now at around 30,000 miles I'm getting 55mpg consistently around town. My last road trip with full luggage, 100% slab riding from gas stop to gas stop, with a headwind, guess what... 67.7mpg! Best ever has been 71.4mpg Try keeping the rpm's down for better mileage. | ||

Pwnzor, how fast were you going to get 71.4 mpg? My best is 61 doing 55-60 along the Klamath river in Nor Cal. Xbenign, mileage will go up in the first couple thousand miles. What are your riding habits like? Commuting I get about 48mpg. That is 17 miles each way, 1/2 highway 1/2 surface streets. Well it's not really highway riding since it is rush hour in LA. On the weekends when I go out for most of the day I get mid 50s. One thing I noticed is over 80 mph the mileage takes a big nose dive to mid 40s. | ||

Don't worry, your mileage will improve dramatically as the engine seats itself. I've gotten 67 MPG slab riding gas stop to gas stop on my 05 XB12Scg too. I regularly get low 60's around town. Enjoy your new toy. | ||

Believe it or not, I was going about 75-85mph. Non stop run between fuel stops, beginning in Santa Maria, CA (US101 @ Betteravia Rd.) and ending in San Miguel CA at the K street Chevron, which is 70.3 miles and it took just slightly less than a gallon of gas. I'd have gone on to my normal stop but I had to take a leak. I topped off the tank and was in disbelief, thinking it would take at least 1.3 or 1.4 gallons, and I did the math over and over, just shaking my head like "wow". | ||

On my 06 XB9SX my first couple tanks were like you said high 40mpg, but the more I rode it the better it gets, I average about 55mpg now (3000 miles), with my best ever of 64mpg. I actually find that it does not change between easy riding and moderate riding, although with some really hard riding I only get High 40s, haha who am I kidding, ONLY, its unbeleivable. my friends toyota prius hybrid get 50mpg I just laugh when I get better milage, spent less money, and have way more fun, and then their is performance hahaha. | ||

Lol I guess Mr. Priusdriver can laugh when it rains though  I agree I don't see much change in mileage from city to highway, unless I linger above 4500rpm for any length of time. If I thrash throttle over Ortega Highway all morning my mileage is between 40-45. Still not bad at all for a morning of fun you can't have in a car. Hell, my Z06 Corvette wasn't this much fun. Damn thing was a money pit, and then I lent it to one of my employees for the weekend and I could never get the smell of cigarettes out of the heater vents. *SOLD* | ||

Socalbueller: Xbenign, mileage will go up in the first couple thousand miles. What are your riding habits like? My riding was pretty tame during the break in. The recommended RPM limit was 4k for the first 50 miles and 5k after that up to 500 miles. I'm incline to agree with everyone about the mileage going up since my ride on the rental returned slightly higher numbers even with my heavy handed riding. That bike had 4k on the OD. Punkid8888: How does your friend feel about his Prius not living up to the EPA numbers? I've heard that they're not really living up to their promise. I have a diesel Jetta and am getting 52-54mpg on the highway. Not to much horsepower but plenty of torque. Maybe that's why I like the Buell so much. | ||

In October on an 80 degree day riding the Blue Ridge Parkway at 40 to 50 mph in 5th gear mainly I got my best tankful mileage of 70.1 mpg. Usually I get 55 to 60 mpg. | ||

She really likes the Prius alot, she got it last year and she has an almost identical commute to me where we both live south of Boston and have to travel into Boston, the difference is she works slightly west while I work slightly North of Boston. Anyways she did not buy it with intention to get insane gas mileage, I think she just bought because she liked the idea of being more eco friendly, getting really good gas mileage (better then almost any other car), and being on the cutting edge (she is mechanical Engineer grad like me). The commute is very stop and go, with an average speed of about 20mph (this is all highway mind you) so I think in more ideal condition she would see better numbers. Hell I am jealous my Dakota gets 18 to 19 mpg, OUCH. | ||

I'd rather be buried alive than drive a Prius. Plus, they don't get the mileage that is claimed and that is well documented. I bought the Buell for fun, not because of the great gas mileage I'd get. That's just icing on the cake. |
