so, i'm thinking about adding some new lower bars to my city, and have heard good and bad about the crossroads clip on style bars (the only negative really is that they seem fairly difficult to install) i was wondering if anyone has experience with any other clip ons? ideally, i'd prefer an even more "minimal" look than the corssroads afford....any suggestions? | ||

You can put true clip-ons on. CrossRoads are not difficult to install. Where did you hear that? No wait nevermind, CrossRoads are easy, I installed mine without instructions in about 20 minutes. I bought mine used is why I had no instructions. | ||

buy an upper triple and bars from a XBR. do a search, i know that theres threads about doing that on here. | ||

Using the crossroads true clip-ons is not all that simple a solution either. The cast housing requires some offset to make it work. It's all very doable, but those same things that make that job doable would make the regular crossroads installation trivial. Frankly, I've not been able to understand the difficult installation stories I've heard. I've installed several sets, and the worst I've ever had to do was play with the throttle cables a bit to eliminate binding. I DO like the clutch cable hole idea, however. I like the straighter clutch cable run. I didn't use it on any I've installed, though, and didn't have problems. My own Lightning has the hydraulic clutch, so cable run just isn't an issue at all. I took the idea from Pete and Stealth with regards to the hole for the clutch cable, also used an "R" cable. I didn't have to, but I needed a new clutch cable and thought it would be less stress on the cable. Not sure if it's any better or not, I have nothing to compare it to as mine has been set up that way from the beginning. I don't get the difficulty in installation either. Now you look above at Stealth's installation, that was a time consuming, difficult task. But, it's how I plan to go here in the near future, but, not because I dislike the CrossRoads, but because they're even lower, and it looks "factory" |
