I’m freakn jacked!! I took my rear rim to Ocala HD this morning to get a new one mounted and balanced and the Bat Rastards scratched it!! I mean WTF. I know its not there typical chrome BS but still why can’t they be freakn careful. I talked to the guy who I guess is one below the service manager and he said that they would most likely pay to have it re-coated or something along those lines and the owned up to doing it right away, they didn’t even flinch which I was really amazed by.

He said the service manager will be in on Monday and he will call me and talk about how they will fix the problem.

What should I do, get it re coated? Get a new rim all together? Or I need my 10k service soon, I was going to do it myself but maybe I can just touch up the rim because it isn’t that noticeable and have them do that for nothing.

What is everyone’s input on what I should do, I will post some pics later so everyone can see.

If your wheels are still amber, I would get a new wheel. One, because alomst no powder coating company can match the shade of amber. Two, EVERY AMber wheel I have seen, including my own, once scratched, just keeps flaking off the coating. It seems if you harm the integrity of the coating, things only get worse.

Plus, I believe the dealer, or any shop, should take precautions to protect ANY rim they change tires on. I mean it is not like your wheel is a common color or that they did not know the coating could be easily harmed. My local shops ALL know to tape over the rim edges prior to even breaking the bead on custom colored wheels of any kind. Are they the only ones?????

Accidents happen and it sounds like they are working on a resolution with you, why are you so upset?

I think you should be cool but firm in having the wheel repaired or replaced. Don’t be the guy no one wants to help, talk to, or work with.

The edge of both of my rims are scratched and flaking (iridescent amber powder coat). The guys that change my tires for me at the local Ironhorse dealership do the best they can, but that powder coat is so thin it seems a little inevitable they're going to flake and peel around the edges to me.

I didn't get too bent about it. The first one they did for me, I think they were more upset about it than I was. I guess when it gets really noticeable, I'll get them chromed. I've been dying to do that anyway.

Sorry to hear about your new rim. Be firm but polite and they'll probably give you something to smooth things over. I like the idea of the free 10,000 mile service if you're not going to do it yourself. Good luck.

Dealer did that to mine - I posted here about it - they tried to paint over it but it was more like GOUGED.

Long story short I got a new wheel and not much of an apology. Tells you a little about the dealer. They didn't give a crap about me really as a customer.

I was cool but firm. I think I have shown restraint in not naming them specifically. Not sure why??

Thanx guys, I didnt mean to come across like a ..Richad Cranium before but i was still pissed. I managed to keep my cool at the dealer and was calm and firm with them, I realise that them owning up and being really cool and trying to fix things does mean a lot. I hope that come monday when I talk to the service manager he is just as level headed and willing to work with me and thouse other employies were not just being nice so I wouldn't cause a seen in front of other customers.

How likely do you think it would be if I got them to replace the rear rim and give me back my scratched one? Would I be asking for the world?

I need to move to Appleton.

Make them replace BOTH rims. If you just get one, it will most likely not match.

No, they won't let you keep the old one but they should have no problem replacing both wheels.

ALSO, make sure they use NEW hardware to mount your front brake rotor. Those bolts and bushings are a one-time use item.

They screwed it up, they need to eat the cost or they will NEVER learn to be careful.

My black 9sx rims chip *really* easily as well.

It would seem reasonable to ask them to re-coat *both* your wheels in whatever shade you want from a vendor you trust.

I'm just going to get black touch up paint for mine, and continue to ride and ride and ride.

For the amount of money a stealership charges to change a tire, they should be professional enough in their methods to never, EVER, damage a wheel.

The first rear I had replaced, my dealer at that time did the same thing to my City-X. They put a new rear wheel on without questioning it. I was surprised at that. I still wonder if I had gone to an independent shop if they would have done the same.

I understand why you're upset. I always feel like, when something like that happens to one of my vehicles, that it will never be as good after that. Usually it bothers me for a while and then I forget about it. Thankfully I'm getting less picky as I get older. Although I still do almost all of my own bike and auto maintenance. About the only thing I let a shop do is changing tires on my truck.

I hope they take care of you.
