A friend of mine is looking to buy a XB9R from someone. They say their 2003 9R is rare because it has the factory "grey" wheels instead of "bare silver." I have an 03 that has the bare wheels and I thought that was the only option the first two years. BTW the bike in question has the Blue body work. The deal for the bike is $5000 for the bike with 3000 miles, Buell jacket, Buell Helmet, and Buell gloves. and supposedly there is 3 years left on the warranty that is transferable to the new owner. He is looking for an XB9R preferably Blue that has not been ridden like it should, read "rode like a sissy," low miles and price around $5000 Thanks | ||

sounds like they're making up a reason to ask for more cash. move on to the next one, if they are willing to do this what else are they covering up. xb's are not rare enough to grab one just because it's there(like you might with a piece of vintage iron that you've been searchin for forever). | ||

In 03 silver was the only color for XB wheels. In 04 the 9r had silver or occasionally white wheels (white wheels only available w/ blue(?)) No matter what the year if the wheels are grey someone painted or powder coated them after they bought it (probably to make them easier to clean) (Message edited by diablobrian on October 26, 2006) | ||

3year warranty left. Sounds like bs to me 03 buells only hd one year to begin with and even the newies only have 2 years. Unless this is an option you can purchase in the states???? | ||

The "warranty" would actually be an extended service plan, which is more akin to an insurance policy since it is not run by Buell. Most of those have huge exclusions so be very careful to weigh the possible benefit against the cost. In most cases the transfer of the policy is not free for the new owner. I think the service manual, tools, and a good relationship with a dealership that "gets it" is a far better value than an extended service plan, but that's me. | ||

ok fair enough i didnt now about the extented warranty. Mate you just got to have a look at the bike. If the guy is saying something that doesnt add up (ie the whell colour) he may well have been told that bs buy the person he got it from. we all know there are some shonky dealers out there. | ||

Aussie hit it on the nose. Buying bikes long-distance is a hit and miss affair. If your buddy is really interested make the time to go see it. And make your buddy at least buy you lunch for your trouble  | ||

if it is the HD ESP extended service plan the transfer is free but you have to fill out a transfer form. They are available at any HD/Buell dealership | ||

Also, what is his consideration of grey instead of silver? I know alot of people that call items that are silver 'grey'. | ||

It may also have the extended maintenance package, that some dealers offer. The bike I bought had that on there, and though it cost me 250 to transfer into my name, I didn't have to pay a penny for the 333 dollar service at 1000 miles. Combine that with a dealer that "gets it" and you have a great package. also would add value to the purchase price if you ask me. Diablo: not trying to argue with you, but it is well worth the transfer cost. I would be out a ton of money on service had I not done it. | ||

Exactly what service did you get for free at 1000 miles? Did something break or malfunction? Because scheduled maintenance is not free. | ||

with the extended maintenance package, all scheduled services are covered. I think it may be a dealer to dealer option. | ||

Maintenance plans are dealer specific. Some are good, some are not. Usually a good source of revenue for dealers because many people never come back to do the actual work that they paid for in advance. Kinda like paying the $50/mo gym membership and never actually going! Pete |
