I've been looking for some twisties on the island (Oahu) ever since I moved here in Aug. Someone suggested "Tantalus Rd." Decided to try yesterday in the late afternoon. It took me awhile to figure out where the road was at (still new here). When I finally got on the road the sun was droping in the horizon.

Dudes, this is a two laner (felt like a one laner with a line down the middle). The road was SOOOOO twistie!! 180 turns! through a pitch black windy road with trees on either side. The turns were so sharp that my high beams wouldn't catch the turn to light it. It was F#$%$ng freaky. After coming out on the other side, and thanking the Hawaiian gods, I start to come down the hill when what do I see: "ROAD CLOSED"

AAAARRGH. Had to turn around and go back the way I came. I didn't get out of 2nd gear.

It's a great road. But the night riding thing was not good for my nerves. And it certainly wasn't good for my first time there. It was like: "Where da #$%$ is the road now??!!"

Of course, this will be my new DAYTIME training ground.

Peace!

Looks like a dream ride bother! I can only imagine the scenic beauty of that place. My cousin just moved out to that island and I'm supposed to visit someday. If so, I hope they rent bikes just for that windy road.

Sounds scary riding in the dark and not seeing the turns...Be safe.

It would be cool to see some pics.

That looks like it would be one hell of a good time during the day. But at night for a first ride, that is crazy.

Yeah it was wild. I'll get some pics going when I head back up there. When I came around a curve and looked over Honolulu, with all the city lights, I was smiling from ear to ear. In the DAY, heck, I might even enjoy it this time...

Rubdoggy,

There is a place to rent Buells...I was able to rent one this summer at the dealer on the Nimitz highway. This is also the only dealer I have ever seen that sold multiple brands including Harley.

I agree that Tantalus/Round Top road is a pretty cool ride....
