Just got an 03 XB9S with bar end mirrors. The bike vibrates so much and the mirrors are so small that I can tell that there's something behind me, but not how far behind me.

The stock mirrors did not come with the bike. I'm thinking about going back to the stock mirrors (or something similar)- do they shake less than bar end mirrors? I don't want to spend the money and find that it doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks!

I could see fine in the stock mirrors on my XB9S at most speeds.

I dunno, my stocks vibrate pretty bad (is that another bike behind me, or a semi truck???). I've read a bunch of posts where riders complain about them as well. I really don't think there IS a mirror out there that works well with the Lightnings. We just shake too much!

I found the stock mirrors vibrated to much just as you describe with your bar end ones.
I have just fitted a set of CRG bar end mirrors but have not been out to test them yet.

switch your bars....if you change to an aluminum bar (renethal, etc...) the vibrations completely disappear.
it's an easy switch, and there's lots of posts on the topic.
I recently made the switch & was amazed at the difference (I'm running a CRG bar end mirror with no vibration at all)...they look a lot better too.

I completely agree with Bigwallfish!!

I had done the same thing on another bike of mine that shook worse than my xb and the vibrations were almost completely gone.

It totally works.

However, my attempts at finding some bars for my xb9r are fruitless, if you could get me the hot tip or a link, that would be great. I have even considered just getting a piece of stock and cutting to size.

The stock mirrors shaking fades out around 4000 rpm. The motor likes to be there anyway.

I have the CRG bar ends from American Sportbike and they work great. No vibration like the stockers. Recommended. I have the smaller ones (2" I think). They also come in larger sizes.

I thought the stock mirrors on my XB12 were useless they vibrated so much. If you really want a set, I have 2 sets of takeoffs - make me an offer :-)

I have the CRG barends as well - expensive, but fantastic mirrors. You do have to get use to looking down at the mirrors, but that comes pretty quickly.

Besides the vibration in the stock mirrors on my xb12s, I had the added benefit of a great view of my shoulders (and while I have awesomely sexy shoulders, they really aren't what I want to be looking at while riding). I too have the CRG bar ends, and can't say enough of about them. I also think they clean the front end of the bike up as well.

I have Napoleon Bar End Mirrors and a Bar Snake installed.
A wide clear view to the rear, no noticeable vibration.
A vast improvement over stock.

I suspect it's your mirrors too. I run bar ends on stock bars and they don't vibrate at all at any speed. I couldn't say that about the lollipops.

I also run the Napoleon Bar end mirrors, stock handlebars, on my 04XB12S. I purchased them from Americansportbike and I highly recommend them. They are inexpensive and do the job well. Great for commuting and a must on the interstate.}

"I also run the Napoleon Bar end mirrors, stock handlebars, on my 04XB12S." Add my name to the list. The CRG bar enders were too small and further away from my view. Being rubber mounted, the Napoleon doesn't vibrate.

Which ones are the CRG mirrors? I checked American Sportbike but I didn't see CRG and my mirrors don't match anything on there.

So it looks like I get new aluminum bars, a bar snake, some napoleon or CRG mirrors, and keep it above 4k : ) That should pretty much solve the problem.

I just took a look at my bike and noticed that all the wiring runs on the outside. Changing out bars shouldn't be a problem at all. Last time I changed bars on a bike the wiring was on the inside and it took about 4 hours.
