Just wonder guys, Have a few buells and ones with different mileage so Just wonder something here.

Bike #1
Lets say on a brand new bike I have the noticed that the idler one can not turn by hand its super tight to the belt while bike is on the side stand and checking different positions as well..

Bike #2
15,000 miles now can turn the Idler rather easy ,just abit of drag not much to speak of...Also notice abit of bearing side play back and forth...


Bike #3
25,000 miles now you can spin the idler easy no drag whatsoever, Also bearing has alot more side to side bearing play back and forth and think this may NOT be within specs....

Now is it possible that the bearings getting lose and need of replacement I wd. say on #3 that this COULD be the cause of belts flexing /walking back and forth on the pulley(s) and this may be what is taking out belts??
Whats your guys opinions on this?

At t=0 miles the belt is at a certain length.
At t=15,000mi the belt is at l=certain+A.
At t=25,000mi the belt is at l=certain+A.

The break in miles of the belt is within the first 5,000mi.

I would suppose that the bearings have worked free possibly and even worn down. Not sure how often bearings on the pulley wear out but it is very possible

In my manual in section 1.10 there is part for Inspection of the idler pulley. Excessive lateral side play of 0.020 in. or roughness indicates worn bearings.

Oh yeah... the manual says to replace Belt and Idler Pulley every 25,000mi.

very easy, and inexpensive to replace the idler pulley bearings. if they are rough, or gravelly i would recommend stuffing a pair of fresh 6203 double sealed bearings in right away.

I was a little wrong in them posts should be 13,000 miles = bike 2 and 18,000 miles bike 3 I`m in Klm`s bad conversion my fault...

Thanks Fullpower , That was going to be my next??, Anyways seems they are abit premature in needing replacement according to the manual...
Might be something for all to keep an eye on as mine Differently need Replacement ,just could cause premature belt stress...FWIW

That bearing number any special manufacture company, as I know there are just so many companies making bearings, However if all could chime in here perhaps with different numbers and companies to cross over etc.etc. ???

6203-2RS Bearing
17mm x 40mm x 12mm Sealed

Fastenal.com has them (http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=0474389).

They might have a local place. Many automotive stores (Autozone, Advance Auto, NAPA) have limited bearing.

Farm supply stores or tractor parts stores also have bearings.

Prices can differ greatly.

Inspection of parts:
Per the manual the belt and idler pulley should be inspected at 1,000 mi, 5,000 mi and every 5k miles after that until 25,000 mi.
