Hello everyone
I would like to know if it’s ok to blip when the bike is warm?
I know there is no reason to do this but I’m an idiot and just like the noise it makes.
What can I say I have a fetish :-)

they really don't care for blipping.
If you wait until the bike is good and warm it doesn't seem to foul plugs like it does when the bike is cold.

As long as you don't send the revs into the stratospere, it should be OK.

Personlly, I think it's cooler to not blip the throttle when there are a lot of people around. I was at Octoberfest in Helen, Georgia and some stupid moron on a full custom was stopped at a crosswalk on the main street through town. For some reason, this attention wh*re thought everyone really wanted to hear his engine at full song while they crossed the street. He was a jerk of the highest order and did nothing but turn good people against all motorcyclists. It's much cooler to be the guy not showing off in situations like that. For the life of me, I can't figure some people out.

Blip if you want to, but don't be a jerk like Bucko was.

Blipping the throttle at traffic lights is for skooter boyz. Try keeping both feet on the pegs even when the bike is stationary - it's much more impressive.

Why Blip at all? Does it do much more then only being a faster shift? I would think that it would screw your gears up. But thats just me. Also, i was confused about your story. So the guys on the costom wouldnt, rev his engine? If people asked him and he just flat out ignored them and did nothing like it sounds like he did. That would get under my skin so bad.

It's all of us old-school two stroke guys that have blipping at idle hardwired into our brains to keep the bike from loading up and stalling.

As for shifting, proper blipping during downshifts will help lessen the stress on the gears.

Old habits are a bitch to change, but if you blip while sitting the stalling when you're trying go can be embarrassing at the least.

Heck, even when late braking and downshifting rapidly I don't blip. I roll the throttle.

Is easier to match the RPM's and won't result in a potential stall or jerk when you are healed over to the max and feathering the front and/or rear brake at the apex.

That is when you need to be riding smooth without any mechanical hiccups so you can handle any challenge the road may provide.

Just my opinion and most likely not shared by many.

Why do you downshift at the apex Outrider? ;)

I always blip on downshifts (but not really a "Whack it open and shift" really, I just roll it on a little and let the revs come up real smooth as I let out the clutch.

As far as stopping without putting your feet down... I practice that at every stop. Feels real good when you can go more than a few seconds without moving at all.

I do a bit of rev matching when I downshift.. just enough to take the pressure off the tranny when the clutch lets out. Makes for a very smooth downshift, no jerking.

Ha.. I do the same thing. I also see just how slow, straight, far I can go without putting a foot down as I sit in traffic, or wait on a red light.}

Why do you downshift at the apex Outrider?

M1...I don't. Read again. I ride the apex smooth with a little trail braking in the tight stuff.

If any corrections are needed at the apex, compliments of unexpected conditions, they involve steering, throttle and sometimes a little more pressure on the brake.

This may sound anal retentive to a lot of you, but it is the way I learned to ride and it has saved my bacon countless times.

The last episode was on my X1 and I found myself with both tires sliding out from under me (lowsiding) on polished pavement with an oncoming dump truck in my sights.

Am still praising Erik and the X1 for the nimble handling and immediate power delivery that allowed me to flip (excessive counter steer) the bike out of the slide and across the road before I met the dump truck head on.

Additionally, I praise the offroad handling ability of the X1 as it allowed me to ride out the deep gravel, etc., on the other side of the road.

I have taken that same curve at speed thousands of times on bikes and sports cars since I was a kid. The mistake I made this time was taking a different line (later apex) and discovering a condition I didn't expect.

Apologize for the tale, but if it helps one person rationalize their way through a panic situation, it's worth it.
