I have been looking at Buells for a while now. I think I will finally be able to get one after the first of the year. I am in the Houston, TX area and the only Buell dealer locally is Mancuso HD. They have quite a few new/unsold 2004 models. I am interested in the lightning models. My question is this: what is a fair price to pay for a new 2004 model xb? The HD sales guy I talked to was talking something like $9500.00. The NADA retail for this bike is like $6700. Question 2: would you buy a new 2004 bike? I have heard that they had belt problems that year?

Come on Bueller's any answers out there?

It's really a matter of what you can afford, I paid 97 for a XB12R 06 but i would of paid more now that I've had it for four months it's actually priceless to me

I know that the bike is worth the money, I was curious about the fact that the dealer is still asking a value well over NADA for a bike that is 3 years old, new or not. I have seen 06 models for the same money they want for the 04. I would like new but I did see an 95 xb lightning in the cycle trader for around 6800. It will be gone before I am ready to purchase.

Yes it does. I think that I will search the net for the best deal because I don't think I will find it locally. I have a friend from work who tried to buy at this dealer but found a better buy on his 03 springer elsewhere. It's all about the $ out the door.

It pays to wait and get the most for your money.

NO the bike isn't worth the money!! If you buy a new 04 model as soon as you walk it out the door it is used and the vaule of the bike is THOUSANDS less! What happens if you dump the bike the first month you own it what will the insuracne company give you for it? The price you paid or the NADA/ KBB vaule for a used 04. I would check the NADA/ KBB price and offer that.

I bought a lightly used 2004 XB12R for 6 and some change over a year ago. It had only a couple of thousand miles on it at the time. I couldn't see buying a new Buell. They seem overpriced to me. Used is the better way to go in my opinion.

Justinxb12s makes a good point. Motorcycle Consumer News lists a used '04 XB12S at $6445.00; so once out the door, any dealer or private purchaser will point to this price. There are much better deals out there.

Stay away from that deal. You could get a new 07 for that price.

I bought my bike (04xb12r) the same week the 05xb12's were getting released.

Pete up at Eddison Hd/Buell in New Jersey sold me one for 7,800.00 out the door w/ 4 miles on the thing.

I did my homework on them and prices on alot of dealerships before buying. emailed them all first and then had them dealing with me for the best deal as i was willing to travel for the best deal.

shop around first. there are many deals out there to be had. the classifieds in this forum have some excellent deals on bikes.

I'd rather pay a few bucks more at a good dealership than save a few and get crappy service.

Also something to consider; there have been upgrades since the 04 model year. While that bike may be new in the dealership, as soon as it leaves, it is 3 years old. If you have that money to spend, buy an 06 or newer. If you are looking for a deal on an older bike, start with the classifieds here and if you are looking for some Dianese pants you will find them in the classifieds too (nudge nudge wink wink).

I would offer 7K, take it or leave it.
I also have an 04. The start switch and primary cover both were replaced under warranty.

I appreciate all of the responses to my questions. I think I will save a little more and go for an 06 or 07 ss or cg. Thanks again for the input.

Hell the dealership I work at has a brand new '06 Firebolt 12R for $9500. That is not a good deal at all. I bought my '04 Lightning 12S in June of 2005 for $7000 OTD because the dealership was getting out of Buell. Go somewhere else or come see me in Oklahoma!

I bought my brand new 04 XB12S just under a year ago for $8000 out the door. Buying it new got me the full factory warranty, so when my clutch cable broke it was covered. As for the other problems that may be out there, its hard to say if those will ever strike. If they do, I still have a year of warranty left. The only bummer for me is I've only got about another month of riding weather left till it gets too slippery to ride.

Its same old Crap.. Harley Sales Tactics do not sell buells.. Brand new 04 in my books means a really stupid sales staff and dealership?

If you really like the bike offer them NADA.. Question how much longer will they be selling buells once they get rid of that 04?

They are the only Buell dealer in the Houston, Tx area. I think we are the 4th largest city in the USA (at least in the top 10 for size and pop.) and there is only one dealer. They actually have 4 2004 models and a couple 05 models.

The next closest dealer is in College Station, Tx, Independence HD. I will probably try to buy from there. I have spoken with them one time when I was in town to go to a Texas A&M football game. They were pretty cool, and they had only current inventory. Makes you think, there is only about 70k people in CS, TX yet they moved all their inventory.

I think I want a newer one anyway, have read the newer models have trans/clutch/belt improvements. I go back n' forth between the cg and the ss. Any opinions out there between these too, pros and cons? Thanks

I bought my new 04 12R for 8k in March of 05. That bike is overpriced.

9000 hard miles and the only problem has been a fouled plug at about 1500miles. no belt problems even with no belt guards.

I paid $5900 for my '04 XB12s with 1800 miles on it. 3500 miles now, haven't had a problem yet.

You could always come to Wisconsin?
I have 06 XB12Ss for 9800.00, including all dealer fees.
