That sounds high to me...

The bike is $10,495 retail! That sounds pretty close to retail with tax, title license, setup to me, maybe a couple hundred off.

999 Set Up? 400miles

Go some where else and pay them a visit when you get your new bike.

Bull shit like that is why there still are NEW 05 bikes at dealerships. Selling buells with harley tactics does not work.

Why not give Dave a call? I bet he could come up with a better deal. Even in LA you should be able to do better.

When I got my cityx (early in 06) my local dealer was selling most (including the then new Uly) for $200-400 less than MSRP. The only addition was tax.

They had a few demo xb12's for about $1000 less than original sticker.

FYI, I don't think I know of anyone who has paid for "set up" on a Buell? There is not that much to do.

Well if you are in LA, DaveS won't be able to help you because can't buy an out of state bike and register it here (well, you can, but it has to have 7500 miles and there are a lot of hoops to jump through). You have to buy a CA bike with CA emissions. What dealer are you going through? May I suggest Mike Wlllar at Biggs in San Marcos? $999 for setup is at least $400+ too high. Also, I just got my CityX a couple of months ago and my experience is that bikes hover around MSRP around here. You might find $500-$1000 off depending on model year, etc., but there won't be the smoking deal that some of the east coast guys have gotten.

I'd say the price was fair. You are not getting the deal of the century by any means, but also not getting ripped off either. Shop another store in the area if there is one. You may be able to do a little better. Check out Daves for a fly and ride deal.

The $999 set up would be a deal breaker for me. Many dealers(mine included)charges no set up, only freight charges + TTL. Shop around, so many of these dealers are used to selling Harleys and having customers who are willing to pay what ever the dealer wants charge for a bike.

set uo is too high IMO. Even if it took 3 hrs. at the going shop rate it would still be under $300.

A set up fee????? Are you kidding me? Paying freight is fair, but I would NEVER pay for bull shit like that.
I worked at several H-D dealers in the nineties and crap like that was typical at the time when demand was greater than supply. The dealer has a built in profit margin on every bike they sell at MSRP. You're being ripped off. Walk away.

Some of you need to wake up. Everyone pays some kind of setup fee. Do you think these bikes come from the factory ready to ride? Open up the crate and ride away......WRONG. EVERY motorcycle gets a pre delivery inspection, EVERY motorcycle...... Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, HD, Victory... You name it. Fluids need to be checked/added, windshields installed, tour packs, handlebars, tire pressure, certain torque specs checked, road tested, all this before the bike ever sees the showroom floor. For those of you saying you would never pay a set up fee, you already have.

The frt is 245.00,all dealers pay the same amount.
We charge 180.00 for setup.
Where are they coming up with 999.00?
They are ripping you off on that charge.
Find another dealer.

thats a horrible deal on a USED bike. Even though its an 07 its still been used, AND if it was a demo I can promise the proper break in HAS NOT been followed. I work for a dealership and we sell NEW ones for less then your DEMO. Walk away, and call Daves.....since he is a sponsor, and I am not : )

Just to go along with Daves.....he is right on frt, and we charge 200 for set-up...hope that this helps show your being ripped off on your 1k charge. Not sure of all the CA laws, but if you buy an out-of-state bike with CA emissions does it still have to have 7,500 miles on it?

$999 is a rip off for F&S.

F&S at Hals is $450 or $499 IIRC.

NO, not a good deal, unless you are the dealer and not the buyer. MSRP plus tax and no more than another 3 or 4 hundred bucks or so is a basic deal and you should be able to get any new Buell for 500 under MSRP, day in, day out. A demo should be at least 1500 under MSRP, maybe even 2K. How hard is it to put 7500 miles on a out of state bike and then buy CA tags?

EVERY motorcycle...... Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, HD, Victory... You name it.

Then why dont those brands charge freight and set up? I have bought 3 new Hondas, 3 new Polaris snowmobiles and a Suzuki some years back and NEVER paid this freight and set up BS. There are two H-D dealerships near my home, one jacks the price up by adding cheap chrome trinkets and then piles another $750 for F/SU. The other dealership doesnt, any guess who sells more bikes.

If they want to jack the price up, you would think they would have the BALLS to just add it to the sticker price instead of these hidden charges.

There isn't that much to set up.... $999. is robbery.

Good luck !

PM Clark

When I brought my Buell I asked about how much set up was needed. My sales guy quietly mentioned that compared to Japanese bikes, Buells come nearly fully assembled, He mentioned most of the set up is minor adjustments, and adding fluids.

Now he could be just blowing smoke so if I am wrong please correct me (looking in Dave's direction).

Our charges are $245 for shipping, $100 doc fee (this is mandatory in Missouri), and $65 for the set-up. The service department is wanting to up that since they are doing more than the standard set-up now.

The depth of the setup really depends on the dealer. Ours do take a while because we set the static timing on every new Buell. Sometimes they are off. We also check the TPS settings before they leave. Sometimes that is off. We also adjust the clutch, and adjust/lubricate the throttle, idle, and clutch cables. When we sell the bike and before any test rides, the suspension is set up for the rider's weight. Below is the rest of the normal PDI (pre-delivery inspection aka set up) that is performed or at least should be before you get the bike:

I'm not trying to bad mouth the dealership in anyway In fact out of all the Buell dealers in So. Calif. they're the only ones who always gave me prompt call backs always worked with me and it's been more than 3 sales people. They seem to always have agood selections of Buells. Very Helpful Usually when i walk in to a HD dealer I look so Young for my age they all think A kid dreaming. But Skip Fordyce a nice Hello And immediately would you like to take it for a spin. Quite surprised.
I know it's a 07 model and @ this time there only a few in the state(of a BLACK Scg.
I'm ready to BUY and I went in on Sat. Ready to Buy the BRAND SPANKIn New one But they said it was gone? I don't know if it is or not but Maybe they saw me looking @ the demo
and they told me it's just been Marked Down
& I said excitedly Really!
Well anyway I think the 999 is part of the state lic. fee. Tax is about 892.00
I just did not feel that 11300 was a good deal for a Demo. But close . I just was so set on the New one. I even took My wife to share the enjoyment of a new bike. Since She felt left out When i bought a Sportster back in 03 I'm just ready to Buy & getting Impatient. I want I want I want

If I may, point out one mistake you have made.
Dealing with 3 different salespeople at the same dealership.
The more people involved in a sale the bigger the chance something will get screwed up!
Pick a salesperson and do the deal from start to finish with them and only them.
Your salesperson will appreciate this as I am sure they work on some sort of a commission/bonus and only get paid that on sales they complete. Right now, one of them is going to "make" the sale and get paid while the other 2 are going to feel they wasted their time with you.
Show that you value your salesperson and they will show you that they value you as a customer. It is a two way street.
If that is the best they will do on the price and you want the bike and want to buy it there then go get it!
