Damn I've had to wait a long time! 7 months to finally be able to pick out mah baby! Good thing is the local dealer's still have brand new '05 and '06 models on the floor and are really willing to deal on em... Just to refresh, what changes were made from the '05 xb12s to the '06? I'm trying to decide between the two... The seat looks a little more defined on the '06 to me, and I think they did something to the airbox, can't remember... What are some prices around the country that you all folks are seeing for '06 or '05 models at the dealer? Thanks all!

06 airbox has slats on the righthand side of it (07 is completelky butchered).
06 Fuel tank capacity is more (due to no pass though in the frame for air intake.
06 airbox has intake behind the gas cap (mesh screen)
06 swingarm is redesigned (different filler placement)

I think thats all?

The major technical change is that the 06 has an updated and improved transmission. If the price difference in the 05 and the 06 is a big consideration, ride both and see if the improved shifting is worth the cost difference.

Hmmmmm ya I think I'm gonna go with the '06... Does anyone think the mechanical changes to the '07 are worth the extra cost (ie- different tps positions, new oil scavenge gears, gaskets, etc.) ? I can get a '06 for 9,700 or an '05 for probably 9,200

The 06 has an improved transmission that is smoother and shifts better with easier clutch pull compared to the 05.

The airbox on the 06 is already drilled as opposed to the 05 which is completely closed off and needs to be drilled at home. The '06 has opening vents around the fuel cap to let more air through the outer airbox as well.

The '05 routes the air through the frame instead, which means the '06 also has like .7 gallons greater fuel capacity.

The 06 has an improved, stronger belt on the drive system. The new belt will fit the '05, but it doesn't come stock.

In short, get the '06 unless you can save a LOT on getting the '05.

'05 to '06 was actually a substantial improvement - much more than any other year for the XB series so far(in my opinion).

I think the 06 got the bronze oil pump drive gear also ($70 part and quite a bit of work to install).

I think there were other durability (bushings?) internal changes to the engine, all stuff that came out of early XBRR results.

the 07's have a new oil pump (higher flow), bronze drive gear, new airbox & ECM map, new rocker box design & gaskets, Pirelli tires (big improvement over Dunlops).

Dang this is a hard decision, do I spend $800 more and go for the '07 model, I almost forgot about the tires... I HATE THOSE DUNLOPS!

Forget the tires issue, they'll be replaced in about 3000 miles with whatever you want to choose.

I think the oil pump gear is more durable, not necessarily higher flow judging from what it says on the web site. "Developed from the Buell® racing program, this gear provides additional longevity."

For $800 I'd stick with the '06 and get a drummer SS and a re-tuned ECM, but that's just me.

Both the oil pump drive gear AND the oil pump are changed. The pump itself is supposed to scavenge better & have a little higher flow if I remember right.

The desirability of the new rockers & gaskets is unknown. While HD has been having a lot of trouble with rocker box leaks on the 04-06 Sportsters (which were the first ones to use the XB heads), I have not noticed corresponding issues here with the XB's.

I thought the only difference between 06 and 07 was the tires and color? I would go with the 06 if it were me!

The upgraded bronze oil pump drive gear came out on the 06's- the new oil pump with increased scavenging volume came out in 07. If really want the better pump, it would be an easy (~15 minute) and probably not very expensive upgrade to the 06.

When I was at Folsom HD/Buell last w/e, they had 12 to 14 Buells on the floor in all flavors and sizes. 3 Ulys, a Blast and the rest were Ss, S and R 's.

No apparel though...............
