i know this is yet another exhaust post, so i apologize in advance (and yes, i have read and re-read al's shootout numerous times) but how do you people out there feel about your jardine cans? i seem to hear a ton about the drummer, a little less about special ops, even less about the micron, and almost no threads on the jardine...what gives? it seems to be the lowest pricepoint for a slip on, so do you get what you pay for? or is it awesome? i think i'm personally leaning towards the drummer, but like to hear some feedback on the pros and cons of the jardine cans...so let 'er rip!

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The Jardine was not made for the 9. The mounting brackets do not line up at all. I spent many hours grinding and filing to get it to mount and it is still blowing exhaust out of the place where the u-bend meets the collector. I've done everything I can to ensure it is seated properly, but it just will not seal. Check the exhaust thread in the Knowledge Vault.

Troopergirl swears by hers.

I have had mine on for 8K miles with no problem. Its a little loud stock, sounds like a harley, so I installed the quiet module. Its now quieter and sounds more like a Ducati. Cool.

I have one. No problems at all. Everything lines up fine and sounds great. Never repacked it yet and it is almost 3 years old.

If I could afford a Drummer I would get one to try, but for the price......the Jardine kicks A$$! I painted mine black!

I have no experience with the 9's

if you are on a budget the Jardine is a good value.
Good sound, pretty good performance.
You do need to keep it packed.
I have them in stock for 236.65

What everyone else said pretty much. I've had a Jardine on for about 8,000 miles. The first one lasted about 6-7 before it pulled apart from my not repacking it. I bought a used one from a friend, and it is already pulling apart too. I'm goingto repack it and tig weld it together this winter. We'll see how it holds up like that. At this point I really want something else because I'm tired of jacking around with the Jardine, but all of the other pipes are so expensive! I know the econo Drummer isn't bad, but I want nothing to do with a stock style exhaust on my bike. I think they are ugly and they also weigh a ton! So, good sound, great price, but you do need to repack it well and often so it doesn't just fall apart. Get your bike tuned once it is on too because that will improve the life of the pipe as well.

I have one as well. I really like it. Whoever hears it, really likes the exhaust note. I haven't had to re-pack it yet (4,000km's).
PROS: light weight, sounds awesome, and looks great
CONS: have to re-pack it, and you can't jack on it

I'm evidently retarded. Is no one elses Jardine leaking exhaust from the collector? I'm certain the bent tube is mounted as high as it will go and I have tried mounting the clamp high and low to no avail. Any suggestions?

I have on on my 12R and the can pulled apart on a track day and slid into my rear tire and just about caused a crash. I drilled a couple of 1/8 hole at the front and looped safety wire through the holes and around the hook for the springs to the header and it has held up just fine since. I put it back together without any packing and it sounds and performs great.

Ive had mine for all summer now on my 9s and this thing sounds crazy. Big performance gain i felt, its more geared to top end so made my 9 really shine past 4k rpms. I just repacked it after only 3000 miles so thats something to keep in mind, i had it done at the 5k service at my local specialty shop so it costed me like 60$ but its worth it, sounds soo nice and deep rather than loud and tingy. Bad part is this morning it was like 34 degrees F out and i jumped on it let it warm up went down to end of road, pulled out taking a right and the rear just gave loose totally and fell. SOoo pissed, broke my footpeg bent my 2nd set of handlebars and snapped my clutch lever after i waited 2 weeks to get it outa the shop. Now i gota gather up all the parts cause no one has anything in stock around here in NH. But def go with jardine you wont regret it or get a higher end drummer there really nice too, jardine is really loud once broken in packing however... equivilant to my dads softail delux with vance and hines big shot exhaust which are full set and pretty open.

Dumb question - I have a Jardine RT-1 and really like the look and sound. My question is, how do you know when to repack it? and where do you get the material to do it with?
Thanks

Most people repack between 4 and 8k. A tell-tail sign would be the rivets backing out.

Do a search for 'jardine repacking' and you will find more than enough info.

I like LOUD. Do you have to repack it? Wouldnt it be like running a straight pipe w/o the packing?

Cereal, I have a Xb9S and everything lined up perfectly. 5k miles, no leaks, no rivets backing out, no cracking brackets, no complaints.

You'll shake it loose if you don't repack it, or fortify the hell out of it. And from what I've read on the board, it sounds much better when it is repacked. Even if you like loud.

Hattori - you are one lucky bastard. I have emailed Jardine a few times because I think the welds on mine are the problem, but they do not answer. Great customer service!

Aatch,
on the German Hillbilly-Motors site is a dyno of the Jardine for xb 9 and Xb12. Look very nice. In Belgium it's a bit hard to get at so I opted for an HP big oval. (mind you these are EU horses)

Best thing to pack your jardine with is Stainless steel wool packing. Dont go for the fiber glass that burns out easy. I had mine repacked not to long ago and it's worked out really well.

I had one on my '03 9R. Fit fine, sounded great. The one problem I experienced was that the tone of it when riding with a helmet made me deaf! Seriously, if I rode for more than 5 minutes without earplugs in I had a hard time hearing for several hours afterward. Strange thing was without a helmet it was fine? No problems otherwise.

I wasn't too excited about the looks though. With the chin faring on it looked like there was stuff missing under there. My chin faring didn't fit the best either.

Personally I feel slip ons for cycles (not just Buells) are way out of line price wise. I understand they are not selling the volume of car mufflers but $500 for a muffler is insane if you ask me. That's why I tried the Jardine, even at $200 it's too much but at least it's in the ball park.

I didn't notice much change either way in performance when I put my Jardine on. But it did sound much better. I didn't do any tuning though and I also was running the stock air filter and box setup.

HTH,
B

I agree with you on the muffler's being over priced.
