Well, wasn't that fun ...

I knew there was going to trouble after the " in my Earth First days ..." comment - sheeez. In the words of the great William Shatner:

I hope this doesn't ruin his balloon business. Every time violence or "meet me outside and say that," comments are usually the sign that they have just realized they haven't won nor will they.

You need to read the whole thread - it was hardly constructive criticism. He was pretty far over the edge and it turned into name calling and threats against anyone who didn't want to burn Erik at the stake. He was more interested in extracting revenge against Buell than getting his problem solved.

Constructive criticism is welcome. Vindictive peeing in the living room to try and get the last word over some sort of perceived injury is not.

There has been a lot of good info in these posts on resolving warranty problems. I think most of it is common sense. I've seen people come into a dealership like a bull in a china shop, demanding satisfaction for a possible warranty issue. They usually leave less than satisfied, as they put the dealer on the defensive. I've tried to be respectful in all my dealings with the dealership and the factory, on warranty issues on my Uly. Both parties have exceeded my expectations. Being nice works sometimes. I hope everyone can chill out a little and remember why we're all hanging out here (Bad Web). Its getting colder here in Duluth and I'll probably be hanging out a lot more once the snow flies. Later, Tim

My brandy new '99 S3 with the "new" EFI didn't run correctly outa the box. Went back to the dealer who admitted they hadn't received training to tune the EFI's yet. Buell sent 2 tech's from the factory to tune it. Buell was still tinkering with the maps and the tech's even said so. They suggested that installing the Buell Race Kit would solve many "running" issues. After I installed the kit, I brought it back to the dealer. They said the TPS didn't need adjusting. I knew then and there they still didn't understand what to do (still no training yet). I brought my bike to another Buell dealer who said they could adjust it. Turns out it also needed a TPS and a Temp Sensor cause they were both bad... All this under warranty. Bike ran fabulous after! Although it was a P.I.T.A. hauling the bike all over the place, it was fixed to my satisfaction... I still have the bike, 23K miles and counting.

My XB, very shortly after it was broken-in, started blowing IGN fuses randomly. Brought it to the dealer. They had the bike for almost 4 weeks! They found the problem... and to their credit, I wasn't going to get it back until it was fixed to their satisfaction. Everything was fixed under warranty and now I'm pushing 9K miles. Had to replace a Temp Sensor in between but I did that myself and it's been runnin right ever since.

I would love it if Buell made perfect motorcycles... I would also love a perfect body (mine and hers!), a perfect house, perfect job.... ah hell, let's go for all of it, a perfect life!

One of life's little pleasures is fixing your bike. The enjoyment of a job well done and getting to ride yer bike with a feeling of pride, knowing you fixed it yourself.

I've met Eric several times. His passion for Buell motorcycles AND wanting every single one of them to be perfect is obvious. Being able to commune with the founder/designer/driving force behind the motorcycle I own is beyond description. When I relate this to my buddies who ride "other" brands, they are clearly jealous. Several have "come over to the Buell side" and are happy as can be. Play your cards right and all things can be good... well, at least I try very hard for positive outcomes... and it appears most of you do too! Welcome to the positive side of Buells and BWB.

I'm pretty much walking on air today. Yesterday I had three, count'em THREE calls and e-mails about EXCELLENT DEALER encounters.

I think we tend to hear, in cyberspace, the train wreck stories and it's neat to hear the "went well above and beyond as a normal course of doing business".

I grew up around that type of dealership and now realize why no Harley-Davidson dealer in the world has as many awards at Topeka Harley-Davidson/Buell.

Dealerships like that make you WANT to do business with them.

Cool stuff!

My local ACE Turbine dealer sucks. I've been three times complaining about excessive fan noise and heat from the engine (so hot it melted my Yogu parked behind it in the garage, fire spread to the house which burnt to the foundation). He tells me there's nothing wrong with my ACE..... What should I do now?? PLEASE HELP. I still love my ACE but.....

Mainstreamer,

I would prepare documentation for the case to be made to the DOT that the manufacturer should be required to remedy the excess heat blast problem as a recall item in that it is unsafe. I would also suggest you contact your friend the Senator and have them start working on a bill to require all turbines to be safe from excess heat and property damage.

More importantly, I would begin a grass roots effort on the ACE Turbine bulletin board, BlastWave.com in an effort to punish and cajole the manufacturer into upgrading your turbine to the newer green model equipped with low temperature emissions and longer life beacons.

Although the parts to convert your old turbine to the newer turbine are readily available at approximately 4.2% of the original purchase price, you should have a turbine that is immediately updated for free each time technology changes or a better, more durable part comes out.

I personally have a Toyota Sequoia. Now that the new ones are generating 280 horsepower, I expect Toyota to be providing my horsepower upgrade as a recall any day now.

Good luck.

S1eric, I had a'98 S3-T that had 60,000 miles on it. Then I got a 2000 M2 that I put 55,000 miles on. Now I have an '06 Ulysses that I've only got 17,000 miles on (I've only had it for 10 months).
The S3-T is the most beautiful motorcycle ever made, but the Uly will outperform it in almost every area. (Seat height and wind protection go to the T-bolt).
Tubers are nice, but the XBs are better.

Of course they are in bars...

The healthy don't need the medication, only the sick do. Thus, those who suffer the malady are mostly likely found at the place where the remedy is dispensed.

Speaking of dispensing, can we dispense with this thread now?

Let's summarize so people don't have to read the whole thing:

Buell's are motorcycles. Buells are not jet powered. Some have problems. People who have problems with their Buells are not evil, Buell MC is not evil, Erik Buell is not evil.
If you try to piss people off you usually do eventually.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Rinse, repeat. Repeat. Repeat....
