I have the Buell Pro Series Polished Race Kit. I am interested in painting the polished muffler. Has anyone painted their polished pipe before? Should I just sand the pipe by hand to rough up the surface, then paint it with the high temp paint? I've never painted anything that was polished aluminum before and I don't wanna screw it up. Any advice or tips would be great. Thanks.

No, its polished aluminum. Buell has TWO versions/styles of their factory race kit. The ceramic, flat color, coating you speak of AND a polished, high luster version also. I just want to make sure the high temp paint will adhire to the polished surface and not peel or flake off.

Beachbuell its ceramic coated like Jet Hot coating Sterling 1300. It is not aluminum trust me. Scuff it with Scotch Brite and paint it. Heres a D&D that I had done and its not aluminum.

I had mine bead blasted, and then 7 layers of high temp rattle can paint. And then baked in a P/C oven to cure it.

Black looks much better!

My friend has an 03 XB9R with the ceramic coated race pipe. I have an 05 XB12R with the polished race pipe. It's aluminum, prep it with some fine sand paper and hi-temp paint it.

Are you saying that my 05 race pipe is painted/ coated?? I hope not because I used Mother's to polish it up real purdy.
