Anyone have any experience with either shock?

Curious, I would imagine because the longer swing arm requires a different length shock mount or spring rate (?)

I was wondering the same thing. Ohlins doesn't list a shock for the XB12Ss, and I won't assume the existing XB12S shock would work.

They are two different part numbers with Buell shocks:

K0402.02A8A is for the 12S
K0001.1AN is for the SS

I'm not sure what the differences are. I'm betting height. So as long as the Ohlins or Penske have adjustable height, you should be good to go.

I agree I also would say OAL can be accounted for with the adjustable length.
But I wonder if the added length of the swing arm (which puts more force on the spring) makes the spring rate different.
And if that is different, are the compression and rebound dampening rates (internal shim stacks)different too?

This might help since the Penske I chose meets (or is very close to Ss static/riding dimensions): http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/228551.html?1159393916

Great follow up

So do I go to Penske or GMD Computrack to see about pricing a shock/ fork spring set up?

Thanks

You can't go wrong by talking with Kent Soignier (he's the suspension guru and manager of the Atlanta GMD shop): http://www.gmdcomputrack.com/
