Howdy y'all. Quick question--

I've just removed my cracked old Force pipe (crack pipe, huh) and PCIII from my 03 XB9S, and installed the Micron Serpent full exhaust.
Now what is the best way to address the EFI or tune for this set-up?
I should add, i also run the K&N filter with a very open airbox (think open shark gills, i'll post photos soon); desnorkled, also.
Race ECM?
Getting conflicting advice.
Thanks, banks.}

Definitely contact Al at American Sport Bike and get a Direct-Link map to supplement that combination. The Micron with a D-L map and a free breathing intake is capable of over 90 RWHP on the XB9 with a stock motor. Enjoy!

Dannyv,

The best option is to get your bike dyno tuned with direct link. We had a customer use the Micron pipe w/ the race ecm before. His A/F values were ok at WOT, but during cruising RPMs and anywhere you would be in the active AFV mode, they were over 15.5:1. This is lean enough to eventually cause damage to the bike.

I'm not saying the race ecm isn't an improvement over stock, but a custom map is a much better choice.

We do dyno tuning down here in Joplin if you are interested.

Thanks for the fast response, guys. I live just south of the Fox Valley and I've got my bike w/ Dave Stueve's (Appleton H-D Buell) right now. But I knew I'd need a custom map--some service-dude there suggested a Race ECM but i didn't think that was the way to go--now I know.
(Thanks, BadWeb!)

Now I just need to decide on where to go for this service.
What's the going rate for a custom-mapped ecm?

Danny, Dave is where your bike is and he does that sorta thing there also, so you've got your answer.

Danny,
Our maps are $100, the key that allows us to talk to the ECM is $249. You send us your ECM, we program it, and return it. It doesn't even mess with the TPS setting.
I'd need to know more about your airbox to know if the map we have would be a good match, though.

Al

Hey Al, do you have a map for a 03 XB9S with a Force pipe and open airbox?

So some service dude at Appleton suggested a race ecm, even though his own shop has created custom Micron maps? Am I missing something, or is he?

If thats the case it is frustrating that Buell techs seem to know so little about their product, even about whats happening in their own shop -

Say Al

How about a list of all the custom ECM maps you've got so far for the different combinations?

Perhaps a custom map for the American Sport Bike Open AirBox kit with the Buell race pipe?

thanks again

We don't have any Force pipe maps.

Terry has done some mapping on a Buell race pipe with an open airbox, but I don't know if it was a full map or just some spot tuning. AFAIK, it has only been run on one bike. I'd need to run it through a beta test to confirm there aren't any AFV skewing issues before we could sell it, IF it was a complete map.

I'll have a list of completed maps soon, as soon as I get a few that are in Beta test completed.

Al

Since we are talking about Micron,

Is it just me or is the first bend on the front header a little over bent?

Is it supposed to look like that? If so, why? The stock has a much smoother contour.

Hi Al, that mapping on a Buell race pipe with an open airbox, will that be compatible with a Drummer SS instead?

The Drummers are designed to be compatible with the original race-ecm, so why not?

all exhausts were not created equal, hence why custom maps are being made for different pipes.
