This weekend I went riding with a group of friends, and I forgot to lift the sidestand. Luckily the guy behind me noticed and warned me.

I thought that Buells had a safety switch that would cut off the engine if this happened, but on my bike nothing happened. Is this normal?

I know, I know, I should of...

The 03s had a kill switch I think, but after that they don't.

Yup...newer models are designed to have the side stand retract back up if you leave it down. It will swing back up as soon as it hits the ground when riding.

Its a good thing to test the behavior of a stand down departure before it happens. Most of the bikes I've had would get a slight bump and lift at the rear end in a gentle left turn with the stand going up by itself.
r
It got you attention but did not lift the rear tire off the ground. It could be worse if you got to higher speeds before it happened and/or if you made an aggressive left turn.
