I just bought my first Buell the other weekend. Well put brand spankin new Mich. Pilot Power's on it, and I guess I over torqued the axle or the bearings where already bad, but yes I did kill them. However, in the process it killed the rim as well. I need to know if someone has either the silver front rim, or is selling a set of the Amber ones. Thanks. | ||

how did you over torque it. If i remember correctly it has a step on it. | ||

Well after reading the manual it is suppose to be like 40 ft/lbs of torque then tighten the hold down bolts on the front fork. Well like I said, I am not sure if I over torqued it, or just got a bike witha bad bearing. | ||

Were the bearing seals orange or black? The black ones were recalled. | ||

yeah they were black. I read about the recall. And called buell. And got no help what so ever from them. Oh, they offered to sell me a new rim. But when I asked about the recall they said that it was for the bearings only, damage to the wheel would not be covered. | ||

I reckon I over torqued mine too because my torque wrench doesn't work for left hand thread. My bearings gave up twice as a result. | ||

i found a trick for that. Take a spark plug socket i you have one that has a 7/8" hex head on top of it. Then put an 8" extension through the axle..attached torque wrench..and bam..it now works. That helps in a pinch if you get stuck on the road and do not have a 22mm allen wrench too. | ||

Brilliant... I've used the backwards plug wrench but not with the torque wrench inserted from the wrong side to attain torque value  . Thanks... | ||

Well thank you, I try. Guess that is what happens when you live out in the sticks and do not have a sears within an hours trip, gotta make work what you got. |
