Has anyone ever used Rocket fuel I have an occasional issue with pinging. When I bought the bike the previous owner said that he had advanced the timing 3 deg., and that I might want go get it reset to factory specs. I occasionally noticed pinging when I rolled on at about 2500 to 3000 in 5th on the freeway, so I had the local HD dealer reset the timing and the tps. On the way to work yesterday I was able to get it to ping again. Any hoo ... anyone ever use this stuff? I like the idea of small packets so that I can carry a few with me in my back pack. Be careful, many octane boosters have lead in them. Lead will kill your o2 sensor very quickly! I'd look at getting the timing retarded back to (or near) factory specs before worrying about fuel additives. | ||

I have a 03 XB9S and have run it on 87 octane just as a test and it did fine. I allways use 93 but tried 87 just to see if it would work if that was all available. Some on this board said it will work. The 12s are awhole diffrent animal and the highest octaine available shoud be used. | ||

If you have a good quality wideband O2 or a denso I've seen them take lead fuel for years, but anyways the bike should run fine with 91. If not somethings probably not right. The highest oct I have run was a special mix from the local oil company it was 95, and they have it in a pump outside of the office. It ran great in the really hot weather | ||

I have used NOS street legal formula with no problem. It is safe for oxygen sensors. Note, you will likely need to retard the timing 3 degrees AND use the NOS octane booster to rid yourself of the pinging. Davo retarded his timing by 7 degrees and does not use the octane boost. (with good results) If you are still under warranty, you should call Buell customer service. My pinging problem has damaged my combustion chamber enough to make it burn significant oil at 4500 miles. My bike is in the shop being fixed as we speak. If not controlled, the ping will damage your engine. | ||

44mag2, Good to hear from you. Where have you been hiding? Have you checked out the Uly at 2000/100mph thread? I was able to dial in about three more degrees. I am about 5 degrees retarded past factory. FYI the ECM goes to zero advance at 307F at idle. | ||

I would do it myself if I knew how... or had the hardware/software. this is the first time in my life I have ever had to take a bike to the dealer to have the timing set, what ever happened to dial indicators?  | ||

i run 100 octane low lead in my 03xb9s for about two years and havent had any problems what so ever | ||
