The question is not whether it's a bad Photoshop or not (it is), it's whether Motorcyclist has any inside info to back up the article.

Yeah... It IS somewhat unlikely that they'd change the sporty to left hand drive.

It's obviously a photochop but thanks for the correction Dana : ).

That said... I'd say water cooling is plausible... In '08? Probably not...

I may still ride a shovel, but I'm all for liquid cooling, just not on MY motorcycles.

I have a feeling it will be a reworked version of Revolution motor. If it happens....

Geez. That is ugly.

Just another reason for me to avoid even looking at Motorcyclist magazine. I guess if it was water cooled, had a 10-valve engine and revved to 15000 rpm, they would like the Sporty.

I'm sure I read an anonymous post on this board that the VROD motor started out destined for the Buell bikes. A water cooled motor is coming . . . will it be 2008 or later? That's the question.

My guess is that it'll be later. Buell has made it clear that the current motor can pass noise and emission standard up until 2008. With the Sporty just getting an upgrade with FI, I can't imagine a big motor improvement would follow the next model year. My guess would be 2009.

It's funny hearing all these comments about how a liquid cooled engine just adds maintenance. HEAT is the absolute worst enemy of any engine, it's just a fact. I learned that long before becoming an engineer. HEAT causes oil to break down, thing to expand greatly and fatigue, tolerance to be looser, corrosion and break down of materials and over all horrible for any motor, gear box or anything mechanical actually.

I keep hearing things like leaks and valve adjustments. My SUGGESTED valve adjustment for my R1 was at 28K. Pay the $250 to get them lashed and go until 60K. I've never seen or had a radiator leak on anyones bike I've known. Unless they dumped it. :-)

Let Buell put out a liquid cooled engine and start getting up to par with at least the 600cc or 750cc rice burners. YES, keep the same short wheelbase and unique characteristics of a Buell that we all love, but with more horsepower.

For those who want air cooled engines, there will thousands of XB's for sale for you to snatch up cheaply when and if a 130 HP Liquid Cooled XB is released.

All Problems solved as I see it.

2009 you say??? You might want to reconsider that thought. This is my thought. 2009 is to late why?? Cause this year there were very few improvements and no really big changes. Now.... 2008 is going be Buells 25th anniversary and that marks a huge achievement. It would be ashame not give the consumer something new to drool on. Is it liquid cooled who knows... I don't but I do know enough and been around long enough with buells to know that they will give something to sink your teeth into and wet your taste buds. Homecoming will be special that year I know.

Xb12rdude I had a Yamaha V-max that leaked coolant, a K-75 that leaked and My friends Superhawk currently has a coolant leak. Neither of my bikes ever went down. Now my friends Superchicken is another story.

Im not arguing for or against liquid cooling, I am just saying they can, and sometimes do, leak.

A better chance is the RR motor (or a streetable derivative) making it to production... in my opinion. Or the, what was it, XR? The Harley water-cooled, overhead cam racebike. That motor. I don't see Buell abandoning this chassis for the sake of a heavier motor w/more horsepower. That goes against their trilogy of design, or something like that, right?

That bike pictured is one very ugly motorcycle. Good to learn it is a photoshop fantasy.

There is no reason why air-cooled engines will not continue on through the foreseeable future. The Buells are the only 80+ RWHP sportbikes that I know that do not require a catalytic converter to meet emissions requirements.

Noise requirements aren't likely to get any more strict; they haven't to my knowledge in a long time. Tire noise is the dominant factor near any moderate to high speed road these days.

Point being that the popular and rampant myth that emissions standards will preclude the viability of air-cooled engines in motorcycles is exactly that, a complete and utter myth. It is untrue. Good for us and all the other air-cooled moto-enthusiasts out there eh? : )

Radiators are ugly, and ad complexity. Why is it so difficult for some folks to see that? If I had to choose between 20 more HP and an air-cooled engine, I'd take the air-cooled engine.

Like has been said before though, if Buell ever does implement a liquid cooled engine, you can bet that it will be done with innovation and much consideration for the "Art of the Motorcycle". : )

I think I would always choose air-cooled simply for the fact that they make maintenance easier. Can you imagine having to take the radiator off every time you wanted to change the oil? That is like having to remove the exhaust to change the oil (what bike is that?). No thanks, I'll take that simple air-cooled lump please.

I would have done a better job.

I've never owned a liquid cooled motorcycle.
Not saying I wouldn't, just that I never have.

You know - who cares. If you take care of your bike, don't ride it like a dumb-ass regardless if it's water or air cooled they last a long time. A water cooled bike lasts longer than most cars do. People always want bigger and better and can not be happy with what they got. I'm perfectly happy with my air-cooled 80RWHP (or whatever it is) XB.

Saying that you would refuse to buy a bike because it is watercooled is really sad.

Buell is in a position that it can grow exponentially. Buell would do very well with the sportbike crowd if they had a bike that could compete with the current 600SS bikes. Alot of people play the spec-sheet racer game when they buy and why not let them have a water-cooled Buell that can play too.

For all the die hard "I refuse to buy watercooled bikes." Buell can keep building an air-cooled bike as well. Ducati has both. Buell can too.

Buell has the ability to make a huge mark if they make the leap.

Buell has the ability???? They already have more so in some ways then others. If they stay aircooled in the future they'll have a plan to keep the dream alive.
